Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Saturday that he is “seriously” considering a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer.

“Too many Californians are struggling to make ends meet, pay the bills, and send their kids to college. They are looking for progressive leaders in Washington who will fight for them, like Sen. Boxer has done for over 20 years,” he said in a statement. “… The urgency of the needs of the people of this great state have convinced me to seriously consider looking at running for California's open Senate seat."

He joins a large field of Democratic candidates weighing a bid, including billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer, state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and several members of Congress. On the Republican side, Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and former GOP chairmen Duf Sundheim and Tom Del Beccaro are considering bids. [...]

Is there a Conservative Party in CA, like there is in NY state?

If I was a conservative in CA, I'd simply run as an Independent. The GOP there is a joke, and whoever is going to win the primary is going to be just as liberal as the Dem. Might as well run as a hard-nosed, unapologetic conservative and give people a choice.

No, most of them are hunkered down, keeping low profiles etc...Most fully understand they've been outnumbered and nothing will be fixed any of this by traditional means.

So there ya have it.

So Californians are in a crisis, but they need more of them same?

The Mayor must be lying.

Tony Villar as a senator. I am so glad I left California.

I would love Tom McClintock to run and win. Who knows, maybe the tide has changed, but then again it might be tough to beat the unions and all the illegals.

So Boxer has been there for over 20 yrs and the people of CA are still struggling to make ends meet? What has she done to solve this issue and how is electing another progressive going to change things....

This is a retirement job for him, he can’t get elected again for anything else, he has too much personal baggage and the stink of corruption.

Term limits in Congress are needed.

Sure he can, the cup droolers elected this guy to mayor of the biggest city on the west coast USA. They don't even know who's voting anymore...No joke.

If the Bush dynasty can continue being elected over and over to this office or that office, buying offices decade in decade out, anything is possible. Throw in the endless lucrative government careers feinstein, boxer, pelosi and all those in other states...on and on...

These people go in for life, all supported by cons and criminals with their own agendas...

Life long careers in government....Another knife in the back of America.

Tony, while possessed of a certain feral sort of cunning and is "street-smart," is actually quite a bit dumber than Barbara Boxer, incredible as that accomplishment may seem. (Geraldo Rivera may actually speak better Español than this crook/clown ... as his interviews with Mexican news reporters demonstrated!)

The main problem in CA ... or at least a big part of it ... is the incredibly corrupt voter rolls. Reasonable experts say as many as 300,000 registrations are fake, faulty, or completely imaginary virtual voters. It was estimated that 80 + seats in the legislature are held by fraud! Not only do illegal aliens vote, dead illegal aliens, and their virtual relatives also vote ... early, often, and wherever needed. Remember the Sanchez Sisters? You ain't seen nothin' yet!

When the CA illegal vote kicks in, The GOP could run Jesus against Satan ... and lose.

Wondered what happened to him, after the DNC convention debacle of 2008.

As I remember, the DNC Caucus deleted all mention of God from the DNC platform, triggering public outrage. Realizing that this blunder could swing the election to the GOP, a vote was scheduled in prime time to amend God back in, but the Caucus wasn't going for it. It was obvious that the amendment lost the voice vote, but like Stalin said, it matters not who votes, but who counts the votes. And that person, center stage on primetime TV, perpetrating obvious fraud, was Villariagosa.

He was an up-and-coming star in Dem politics before he fall on his sword for the party. Never heard a word about him until now - do you think anyone else remembers?

So in other words, they're cowards.

Respectfully, the last conservative office holder in the Golden State, should be chiseled in stone, on Mt. Rushmore, alongside the other great American Presidents.

Just the facts, ma’am :)

People don’t get it...

They got bumper to bumper 747’s lined up from Ustinkistan and who knows what coming in 24/7, a Boston Marathon of illegals and who knows what coming in from the south...and they still can’t figure out they’re electoral process has been totally corrupted, compromised and undermined.

Cowards? No...Your vote means nothing when your 1 no vote goes up against 10 yes.

Have you not seen the trend for the past 2+ decades? Come on.

And 20 percent of those votes are likely illegitimate.

On and on.
