DETROIT General Motors plans to start selling an affordable electric car in 2017 that will be able to go 200 miles on a single charge.
A person briefed on the matter told The Associated Press that GM plans to start selling a $30,000 battery powered family car called the Chevrolet Bolt sometime in 2017.
A concept version of the car will be unveiled Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to the person, who asked not to be identified because the official announcement hasn't been made.

That is one loaded Focus.
But the average is the average on what Americans are spending.
“When we finally got passed the school zone the traffic began to break apart as people found gaps in the opposing lane of traffic and passed the car blocking the flow. When we finally got to the front of the queue what we found to have been holding everyone to 19 MPH was a Nissan leaf creeping along with wipers barely going and lights looking dim. He was over in the bike lane as much he felt safe because he probably couldnt see well.”
It wasn’t Ed Wallace was it?
(Wheels, with Ed Wallace)
He’s always bragging about his Leaf and how passers laugh at him.
There are a lot of reasons to mock electric cars, but the risk of them bursting into flames is not one of them. Has it happened? Yes. But its exceedingly rare.
Agreed...In my view most of the trials and hype for EVs is in ideal weather conditions, if a problem arises in conditions other than ideal I don’t want one.
If you like driving those things.....enjoy. (Tell me the cost to replace those lithium ion batteries and the danger when they rupture in an accident)
I’ll continue the drive my new RAM 1500, and thank those smug types who help make gas cheaper and more available.
No thanks.... I am going Porsche.
The people that buy into this stuff are people with to much money and to much time, that like toys.
There is NO infrastructure.
Even if there was, I can still fill up in less than 5 mins.
ANYWHERE.
I hadn’t seen post 12 when I posted, but it sure nails it.
I wouldn’t want my wife transporting the kids in that vehicle.
Yep. I live about 200 miles from relatives so I sure want one of these to run out of power on the Natchez Trace. Not a chance! I think I will stick with my 2007 Honda Accord with about 20,430 miles on it. Can’t wait until I get well so I can add more miles on it. : )
volt amortization is extended to 50 years
Sounds awful.
I’ll state this plainly as possible.
No one who understands a strange concept called “MATH” would ever by a hybrid at gas below $7.50, or an electric.
25 bucks huh?
They must have gone up some since then. Hell even I’d drive a 25 dollar Escort.
Ooops.
It all comes out of holes in the wall, and it’s free!
A 25 dollar escort? Where do you find those, the Philippines?
For a number of reasons, a hybrid sounds better to me than full EV. Sure, Tesla is top of the line, but cost is up there. At least a hybrid uses both.
Good for them, Redumblicans need to repeal the Fed tax credit for this boondoggle.
Hey Joe, you like?
