The same reason about security, travel and other associated costs for the USA can be made for ANY trip.

With this, we might as well cancel Air Force One and let the President just do long distance communication.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don’t see what could be gained by him going to Paris. Now if he decided to go to Nigeria where Boko Haram has been murdering and abducting Christians and other non-Muslims I would support that. There is after all a chance that U.S. policy might be do some good in Nigeria. There is very little likelyhood that our foreign policy regarding France will have any influence on how the French will respond to this attack. His presence would be an empty gesture, a bit of political posturing. Which is to say it would play to his strengths.
