Well they certainly are aligned with IS. They helped get it started by releasing their leader from prison and funded them as rebels in Syria. And also pulled US troops too early to give them fertile ground for conquest. One can chalk it up to oligarchy stupidity or allegance to the house of saud, either way the end result is the same.
