According to the current channel 8 newsfeed, the problem seems to be that some trains were stopped in the tunnel and folks were breathing heavy smoke for up to an hour. That could get a bit unpleasant.

No word yet on what caused the smoke, but there have been no reports of any explosions, so presumably it was "just" a fire.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — Metro says a small fire at L’Enfant Plaza wasn’t the cause of delays Wednesday morning.

WUSA9 photojournalist Mark Bost took video the fire, which happened around 10:20.
