Police: Jewish man assaulted at Boulder bar for refusing to remove yarmulke

Two men have been arrested and charged in what Boulder police said was a bias-motivated assault against a Jewish man at a bar on the Pearl Street Mall last month.

According to police a 22-year-old man said he was at the Sundown Saloon, 1136 Pearl St., at 12:30 a.m. Dec. 19 when three males approached him and told him to remove his yarmulke, a skullcap traditionally worn by Jewish men.

The man refused to remove the yarmulke, stating that he was Jewish.

One of the three men then struck the victim in the side of his head with a glass, shattering the glass and knocking the victim down. A second man then kicked the victim after he fell down. The victim was taken to a local hospital with a laceration to his head that required 20 stitches.

A bouncer was able to hold one suspect, Bryan Jamsheed Tayefeh, 29, until police arrived. He was initially charged with second-degree assault on Dec. 19, but has since also been charged with bias-motivated crime after the Boulder County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case.

A second suspect in the assault was identified as Yotam Monjack, 27. He was arrested on Jan. 8 upon returning from a trip to Costa Rica and also faces second-degree assault and bias-motivated crime

Both charges are felony counts.

Why wouldn’t he go to a bar?

Speaking of his wedding:

A) What a depressingly-dreary wedding locale. Arid, cheerless, and barren.

B) I wonder if he’s still married, and whether his “blushing bride” is still allowed to go around bare-headed.

Islam forbids the consumption of alcohol, though that particular rule is honored more in the breaking in most Western countries.

Ah, sorry.

Also, to Nascarnation: No, they were getting loaded, which is why I mentioned that the rule against alcohol is generally honored in the breach in most Western countries (i.e. Muslims often drink, especially in the West, despite the ban; they do all kinds of other things they’re supposedly banned from doing as well).

Muzzies in a bar?

You've never been to Bahrain? Plenty of Saudis drinking in the so-called "Russian bars" hidden away in the hotels.

Boulder is a typical liberal cesspool and has been that way for a long time. When I lived in Colo. I used to avoid going to Boulder as best I could. :)

The most infected strain of liberalism can be found on Pearl St.

It really is not much different than Santa Fe, NM really.

It’s not a bar, it’s a saloon.
