Penn State's football team is getting back 112 wins wiped out during the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal and the late Joe Paterno has been restored as the winningest coach in major college football history. The NCAA announced the new settlement with the school weeks before a scheduled trial on the legality of the 2012 consent decree it will replace.

Where would you get the idea that the funding for the now “donation” will come from taxpayers? Curious.
The NCAA over stepped its authority and was going to lose in court, hence the settlement.
Related to Gov. Corbett’s 2011 budget:
What does this mean for Penn State?
The proposal cuts Penn State’s appropriation by 52.4 percent, a reduction of $182 million. This includes a 50 percent cut in Penn State’s educational appropriation, a 50 percent cut in its Agricultural Research and Cooperative Extension appropriations, the loss of all federal stimulus dollars, a reduction of $1.4 million for the Pennsylvania College of Technology and the total elimination of medical assistance funding for the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Outstanding post!
“so they punished the football team and its history.”
The history of PSU football is now how they harbored a child molestor.
Striking those wins from the record would be seen as pure politics and they would still be considered real records by anyone in sports.
I.e. Hypothetically, if they found Neil Armstrong was a rapist they could symbolically “strip” his title of first man on the moon. But physically he will ALWAYS have that title nomatter what happens unrelated to the moon landing. The rape and landing would be unrelated.
I will guess quite a few of the charges are about to be dropped.
The whole case is based on the Freeh Report and on testimony by a Penn State attorney who represented the three indicted men.
The Penn State attorney was given immunity in exchange for testifying against her 3 former clients.
At least one of the defendants, and the state of Pennsylvania, have filed lawsuits against Louis Freeh and Freeh’s law firm because of major flaws in the “Freeh Report.”
“Paterno and his actions tarnished PSU history ...”
How exactly does porking poor kids in the back door give Penn State the winning edge again?
They are unrelated. Paterno’s football record should stand with an (*) next to it.
PATERNO WINS xxx*
*Most successful pederasty enabler
The sports department was engaged in and/or complicit with pedophilia. That's not a connection?
Joe Paterno wasn’t the pedophile. At most he made an error in judgment.
Just saying ....
It was not the sanctions that tarnished PSU, it was the actions of Joe Paterno and company that tarnished PSU.
So the NCAA completely endorses and rewards any college that allows rampant pedophiles to ravage children. Nice going . . . NCAA . . . the homo lobby lives . . . and Penn St. is now the epitome of illegal homosexual activity with youngsters. Maybe they should erect a shrine to child molesting.
You got it. Paterno would’ve and should’ve been dragged through the courtroom mud pool. Fortunately for him he died before he had to spend a day in court, or prison for that matter.
Like O.J., his career will always be an opprobrium.
Money talks.
Can you fill me in on what crime JVP committed? Why did the js prosecutor say on national television that JVP was not part of any sort of cover up?
I guess his words mean nothing to you? You have your own set of facts conjured up from somewhere?
Methinks you (like many others here) don’t know enough about this case to fill a thimble, yet you go on and on with your character assassination of an entire University.
Go stand with Louis Freeh and the media. See where that gets you in the end.
“You got it. Paterno wouldve and shouldve been dragged through the courtroom mud pool.”
It would be sad to watch an old man of his experience testify that he had never heard of male-on-male sex and thus never recognized the seriousness of MM’s report.
“Can you fill me in on what crime JVP committed?”
Participating in a cover-up of child rape ...
At Penn State that would be the rear end, right?
For the children, at least. Right?
