I can understand lauding his actions in terms of gun rights; there wasn’t much else to praise in him. In fact, we still don’t know a whole lot about him.

A hero for using his God-given right to self-defense; YES!
There are many people who are called "hero" in this world, I will bet every single one, save Jesus Christ, have very many flaws!
