WILMINGTON, N.C. - An Air Force veteran who served in Kuwait found a note on her car Friday criticizing her for parking in a veterans-only parking spot in Wilmington.

Mary Claire Caine told WECT-TV that she returned to her car from shopping at Harris Teeter to find a note plastered to her front window from a person identifying themselves as a "Wounded Vet."

It read, "Maybe [you] can't read the sign you parked in front of ... This space is reserved for those who fought for America ... not you. Thanks, Wounded Vet."

Caine, who served in Kuwait and on the flight line of the F-117 Nighthawk, said her heart sank.

I’ll be sure to thank her, if I ever see her around town. Thanks for posting!

“I’ve never seen a “veteran’s parking place.””

Home Depot has them, and their clearly not just for disabled. I think it’s nice they do this... I remember 45 years ago in Norfolk VA, signs that said “No dogs or sailors on the grass”... Or something to that effect.

Of course we were baby killers /s

Vet's plates do not denote what war but just branch of service. ... some plates have a PH on them some say Pearl Harbor Survivor ... some are proud to have served and want to let people know what service they were in hence the different plates for the different branches.

BTW my dad flew in 'Nam off the same carrier as McCain, my uncle was a Huey driver. My two brothers served in Iraq. One a chopper pilot the other a weapons officer.

Sorry for your negative attitude.

Yes, it seems the left deems female vets the latest heretofore untapped demographic.

They never tire of driving wedges between us.

“I was sort of curious as to what would be sufficient proof and learned that my state (Idaho) now has a special driver’s license that identifies the bearer as a military veteran.”

Hey, I live in ID. I wonder if that would give me any extra consideration when they pull me over for no damn reason?

I guess it could go either way...

In Washington we can only have one veteran plate. If you have 2-3 vehicles then too bad you only get one plate. If you are disabled you have to choose between the disabled plate and a veteran plate. You can have a veteran plate and a handicapped placard you hang from the rear view mirror though.

Each one of my family that served have their own car/truck with a veteran plate. They don’t own any other vehicles. Four vehicles four plates.

Our grocery store has one of these spots as well as numerous others like handicap, mother with child employee of the month and expectant mother.

I really hate them, except for the handicap spots of course. Its getting annoying having a spot for every group of people. How about having all the spots in the lot designated for CUSTOMERS!

I assume this is a courtesy thing and cannot be enforced.

Why on earth would an incident like this be newsworthy?

“I don’t mean this as any type of knock on her or veterans, but I don’t like the idea of “veterans’ only” parking spaces. We are becoming too classified of a society where not only the disabled, but “moms with babies” and senior citizens and now veterans get special parking. It just doesn’t sit right with me.”

The ones that pi$$ me off are the state legislators (and in some states members of congress) who sport special plates. It’s clear to me that they think that somehow they are “special.” One here in CA went rolling by me at about 80 mph so when I got home I looked up who was representing that district. Sure enough is was a RAT! So the plates serve to “advise” the cops not to stop them or otherwise make them obey the laws they are passing for the rest of us. Oh, and also here in CA we lease the car for them, and they are luxury vehicles. This particular one was a Tesla.

“If you are disabled you have to choose between the disabled plate and a veteran plate.”

That’s because the disabled plate has a different meaning. State disabled plates (I believe in all states) mean that you can’t walk more than 100 feet without assistance.

Disabled by VA standards are from 10 to 100 percent and may have nothing to do with walking. You could get a disabled Vet frame and use it with a state disabled plate.

One of the benefits of having a semi-new car and trying to keep it nice. You park as far away from the front door as you can and hope some icehole doesn’t park next to you anyway just so he can bang the crap out of the side of your car.

Not sure what the rules are but I would think you have to have a plate or sticker that proves you are a wounded Vet.

John Kerry has three. He served in Vietnam you know.
