In MI every non-felon can open carry, no permits required.
Concealed carry is only allowed with a permit.
Those with a permit can only open carry in schools, but not concealed carry.
It seems MI likes citizens to open carry.
IMHO - and keeping in mind that I don't have a CCW permit - it strikes me that open carry would be better than concealed, most of the time.
My thinking (bluntly) is that bad guys see the gun, and go elsewhere. Not unlike the cop sitting in his car by the road. 7 times in 10, he'll just be sitting there doing paperwork, but everyone still slows down, just in case.
I don't know myself, but I'm sure that there are many other wiser FReepers who can weigh on this.
