You may find it interesting to click through to the For Students section and then to the Course offerings.
You may notice that the courses fall into a few obvious types...
1. regular old language courses
(just fine and dandy, but nothing special)
2. light-weight, trendy, or ‘progressive’ spins on things that don’t matter much anyway
3. cultural appreciation type stuff, some nice fluff included
very little on the entire list is identifiably serious about Jewish or Judeo-Christian religious values, morals, ethics, laws, theology, etc.. Just for starters, how many actual Bible (Tanach) study courses do you see on the list?
I’ve heard many say how nice it is that Stanford has finally come up with a J studies program....and how (so far anyway) lightweight it really is. They said they would not send their kids to it, as the kids would come out learning almost nothing useful to living in this world...or to Jewish faith or moral teachings.
But I bet its good for attacting donations..
