OAKLAND -- Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement packed a BART board of directors meeting Thursday, demanding the transit agency drop charges and possible fines against 14 protesters arrested after shutting down the West Oakland station in November.

Thursday's show of support was the latest public action targeting BART's handling of the Nov. 28 protest, and follows a petition calling for BART to drop criminal charges against protesters. On Nov. 28, the group now known as the "Black Friday 14" chained themselves to a train on the West Oakland station platform, delaying transbay service for about three hours.

Oakland city Councilwoman Desley Brooks spoke in support of the protesters, saying that BART should ask prosecutors to drop the charges.

Representatives from BART workers' unions, including Service Employees International, attended the meeting to show their support for the arrested protesters.

Protest all you want on the sidewalks and in the parks but stay off the blasted freeways and off the trains. People made late to work or late picking children up from child care are not going to be sympathetic

If the charges are dropped these jerks will only feel emboldened to tie up more commuter traffic.

The little punks should realize, though, that it’s the people who actually go to work who are supporting their communist lifestyles.

I am surprised anyone protesting was even arrested. It is usually a catch and release program, a sort of game between the socialist in charge and the socialist protesting.

I guess someone did not get the memo. Expect the police will be punished for enforcing laws.

Screw the protestors. Prosecute! They impaired other peoples’ travel and thus their liberty of movement.
