From the article:

The NFL is upping the stakes in its probe of the New England Patriots and unleashing one of the country’s top lawyers and a high-powered investigative firm to uncover the truth behind a scandal that has cast a dark cloud over the team as they prepare for the Super Bowl. League officials broke their silence on the Deflategate scandal yesterday, announcing that high-powered white-collar crime lawyer Ted Wells will join NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash on the investigation into whether the Pats knowingly used under-inflated footballs in the American Football Conference championship game. “He is one of the premier lawyers in the United States, he has great credibility, he’s well-known in the field and his reputation is stellar,” said Larry Krantz of the New York law firm Krantz & Berman when asked about Wells. “He’s a very serious lawyer, his integrity is beyond reproach and this is certainly an indication that (the NFL) is taking the investigation very seriously.”

Buy the time this law firm (at 2K or better an hour) gets anywhere, the Super Bowl will be over.

I really do not expect to see anything happening to anyone in the Patriots organization. If it does, it will happen well after the SuperBowl is played.

What a joke. The Carolina Panthers were heating footballs up on national TV this year & were just told to stop....no fine, nothing.

NFL adds all-pro lawyer to inquiry into Patriots

Guess hiring an All-Amateur lawyer wouldn't fit in with the NFL's penchant for over-hyping everything.

Okay, on an earlier FR thread today, Freeper Rebelbase mentioned: Can’t wait for the Seahawks’ fans crowd signs:
Brady plays with his balls
Brady said his balls are perfect
Brady, don’t touch our balls

Any other Freepers who want to contribute potential signage for Seahawks' fans?

For starters, my suggestions include:

'You can Kiss THESE balls if you like; just don't Hiss THOSE balls, mind you' [Graphic will be added]

I haven't piped up on these stories because, honestly, I could care less about professional sports, but this has gotten ridiculous.

So when the NFL sweeps it all under the rug, they can say “hey, we hired a high-powered lawyer!”

I saw a report tonight that said those footballs were only used during the first half. Didn’t New England score MORE points in the second half?

Why does the league not take a look at the inflation specifications? Maybe they are too stringent. Maybe a couple of pounds pressure will not hurt the game.

Give the quarterbacks more leeway to use their preferences. Too big a deal is being made about two lbs of air pressure, IMO.

Not fair to Seattle to give all the press to the Pats.

Whatever it takes to turn The Pats into The Saints in as short a time as it took to do that. Make Brady sit out a season like Adrian Peterson had to. He abused pigskins before a game...maybe even paid someone to do it. Perhaps these very pigskins were used to train pitbulls to fight or even worse, maybe the pigskins were used to train Pitbull to rap. I wonder how long before Obama will have to step in and do something?

I’m fine with the Pats doing whatever they want with their balls. I just ask they wait for the second half before they deflate Katy Perrys boobs.
