Thanks for the info. I don’t work on the AR platform.

I don’t understand why anyone would pay that kind of money just to shoot the AK mag, especially when the Arsenal (which I think is overpriced) is cheaper but is a fantastic rifle.

You can shoot the 7.62x39mm accurately to 300m with a $600 C39. The trajectory of the round drops hard after that.

I build my own AKMs but only have a range to 100m.

Oh, I know the round had been around for many decades, I mean the hybridization of this particular style of weapon :-)

My 300 AAC Blackout chambered AR does everything the 7.62X39 does, and more. More accuracy, more choice of bullets, no need for any changes in a standard .223/5.56 NATO chambered AR other than a barrel, and in some cases, a shorter gas tube. I reload my own ammo with cases converted from .223/5.56 range brass so my shooting costs are kept low.

I am building a 300 AAC Blackout budget rifle as we speak. With judicious shopping I'll be into it for less than $800. Then I may get a $1200.00 can for it. LOL.

I have heard some say they want one for parts commonality, others say for ease of attaching optics. Others say its easier when all the guns you have are similar, for training purposes.

Personally, I think the more types of rifles you’re familiar with the better off you’ll be.

But, to each his own . Hope they make lots of money.

I’ll stick with what I have. My AR’s and AK’s work for what I’ll need them for and within the scope of the purpose they were designed.

The m91 type rifles use the 762x54r. Unless yours has been rechambered.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not learn gun history are doomed to be misled by companies selling “innovative” guns.

Google Daewoo DR300 rifle for the 7.62X39 version.

Then ask yo sef’ why an American didn’t develop it instead of a South Korean!

I love my mini-14. It’s fun as hell to shoot. However, when it gets hot it is not very accurate past 50 yards.

I’ve had pretty good luck with my Clinton-era Ranch Rifle. Maybe I got lucky, or perhaps the stainless models are less susceptible to the problems than the blued steel version. My wife has claimed it as her own, so it’s not going anywhere now... :-)

It is because they are cheap and everywhere. Plus, if the AK’s shoot the steel crap reliably, it’s a win-win for general purpose use.

People have tried multiple times to design an AR that will take 7.62x39 ammo, but most of them don’t work well for various reasons. I think most of the time the issue is the shape of the cartridge: it doesn’t work well in standard AR magazines, and the AK magazines don’t work properly in standard AR lowers.
