I know it’s popular to make fun of stocking up when a storm’s coming but a large snowfall with below freezing temps (18 here) could be a disaster if you lose power. Trees and power lines down in a heavy storm isn’t unusual. If it’s a widespread outage that lasts for several days it could be tragic. I’ve never understood why posters make fun of large storms that are potentially hazardous.

It's snowing. Schools are dismissing early.
They predicted 18 to 24 inches but have backed that down to 12 to 18. 12 is manageable. Hopefully it won't go higher.

It's really me and my fellow Southerners that I intended to jab (see post 264). We go nuts when we see an inch or two of snow. I certainly agree that a serious storm needs to be taken seriously, and proper preparations are totally in order.
I hope that everyone being impacted by this big one is able to weather the storm safely.

Some locals are also making it humorous, “We’re all gonna die” which is unfortunate because some may do so. Now I can see the hilarity in naming the storms, stupid!. And forecasters become melodramatic when big storms happen which adds to the hilarity I guess. I think forecasters need to lay off the drama and seriously address issues that can arise especially for the elderly. They need to forget the drama for ratings and give sane, calm, practical advice. Stuff like if you lose power check on your older neighbors etc.

We have light snow that started around 6am. The forecast is now 2-4”.
It looks like a nothing-burger but I’m a little wary because the last time I thought that Isabel struck.
