RE:”
If you commute more than 10 miles to work these days, you can't live without it. It provides you with live traffic info and alternate routes when people are rude enough to crash in front of you. Southern California is one giant gridlock for at least 6 hours a day. Waze gives you a chance to avoid a lot of unnecessary delays.” Best phone app, gives voice directions just like a standalone GPS/NAV system and linked to bing for internet searches for places for it to take you to, and its FREE.
Recently I had to drive from Reagan National Airport to ~ West of Baltimore one dark night in the heavy rain and fog,
that's lots of exits from highway to highway around DC where I am unfamiliar and I never missed a turn with waze.
I cant imagine how difficult it could have been.

This is really humorous! Those who seek every artifice to watch and track us are pissed off because we are in a position to turn the tables on the “watchers.”
They really don’t see themselves as public servants and haven’t for many years.
Cop watching is good for society. If they are acting honorably, they shouldn’t mind us looking in on them while they are on the job. This stuff kinda’ puts a dent in those cops who find the Constitution an annoyance.

Waze depends upon user reporting to give the most accurate traffic information. Unfortunately, most of the automated reporting (WAZE reporting on traffic speeds while you're driving) has been disabled since Google bought them (didn't meet with Google’s TOS), though they are trying to bring it back with an opt-in option.
Overall, it is the most accurate predictor of speed to destination I've ever used. Google Navigate uses freeway sensors to calculate drive time, and it is acceptable, but Waze beats them hands down (hence why Google bought them for a billion dollars - pretty cool for an Israeli company.)

There were a few threads here on FR last year about a man driving from Florida to New Jersey who had a Conceal Carry Permit in Florida.
He was pulled over by a cop in Maryland on the interstate who knew the man had a conceal carry permit in Florida. The man was harassed by the over-zealous cop.

I use WAZE as much as i can in Socal and the most recent one was from Huntington park to Panorama city for location scouting.
The one app I miss the most is Trapster. ;(

I recommend it. It pretty much replaced my favorite app called Trapster (end Dec 30, 2014) which looked out for spped traps.

Do they pay that one time and a half or double time?
Or did they work out a deal, two for the price of one?
Yes! They say ‘round is a shape’!

“i had no idea there was such a thing as WAZE.
im guessing its a mobile phone app rather than a website..?”
yes, it’s a free app, and good one.
Don’t feel bad - I just learned over the weekend about an online game that’s been out for ten years called EVE, and now I’m hooked.

Not sure of the algorithm (other WAZERs?), but I've found it to be pretty accurate. I can see the routes with congestion in red, especially if it's on my route. The app has a lot of settings for how to plan a route (avoid tolls, etc) so there may be more for alerting one to problems ahead. Note that the voice alert will announce upcoming turns (with street names and other directions), as well as hazards ahead...
You do have to anticipate, as you might come up on a turn faster than the app can alert you (GPS delay). Otherwise I like it..

So this is a way to make more white felons, grab guns, and make money for the government all at once?
Pity that the governments are going after the law abiding.

I downloaded Waze and used it on my 30+ mile trip to work today.
My preferred method of avoiding trouble with cops is to follow the rules.
I drive the speed limit, accelerate smoothly, stay out of other divers way, stop completely at stops, and anticipate/avoid trouble spots.
On my way to work, I got 4 cops alerts, and there were no cops to be seen.
I also got various useless alerts for cars on the shoulder and pot holes...none was helpful.
