Either they are stupid or ill informed or have a hidden agenda. It is not hard to imagine their hidden agenda (Goldman Sachs wants the money, etc) but they are also ill-informed. The predicted changes in the weather over the long run is for it to become more benign. For example the stronger mid-latitude storms will move north. Without that positive feedback the planet cannot warm enough t melt the Greenland ice cap. Also milder winters, longer growing seasons etc will lower costs and increase productivity.

I understand that they would reap the commissions on trading carbon credits on some exchange. If so, the old saying "Follow the money" is Spot On.
