True on our side... not so much on theirs. Has been posited rather exhaustively that a soviet sub had a renegade captain who was targeting Midway Naval Base with missiles when either a torpedo or a missile (not warhead) exploded on board sinking the sub. The sub, partially recovered by Howard Hughes built “mining” ship that was totally CIA owned. Buried the dead Russians at sea with honors, when recovered.
