Vaccine Critics Turn Defensive Over Measles

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Their children have been sent home from school. Their families are barred from birthday parties and neighborhood play dates. Online, people call them negligent and criminal. And as officials in 14 states grapple to contain a spreading measles outbreak that began near here at Disneyland, the parents at the heart of America’s anti-vaccine movement are being blamed for incubating an otherwise preventable public-health crisis.

Measles anxiety rippled thousands of miles beyond its center on Friday as officials scrambled to try to contain a wider spread of the highly contagious disease — which America declared vanquished 15 years ago, before a statistically significant number of parents started refusing to vaccinate their children. In recent days, new measles cases popped up in Nebraska and Minnesota, New York and Marin County in California. Officials around the country reported rising numbers of patients who were seeking shots, as well as some pediatricians who were accepting non-vaccinated families but were debating changing their policies. The White House urged parents to listen to the science that supports inoculations...

Given that the number of reported measles cases have plummeted since the introduction of the measles vaccine in the 60s, your point doesn't hold much water.

Those are 'reported' cases, mind you. Given the stories in this thread of families having 'measles parties', the number of cases was likely much higher.

It's tragic that those 108 people died. But in the aggregate, more people are alive thanks to the measles vaccine.

LOL!

Okay you obviously did not read my post. I NEVER SAID Cancer, Heart Disease and Diabetes were a virus. I said they were a disease.

Thus, you said something I never said. Then you proceeded to debate that talking point I never made. LOL!

Oh and you 100% ignored what I wrote. Here it is again for you. Try reading it this time.

Measles Outbreak = From Illegal Immigrants Thanks To Open Borders

Vaccines for Measles Deaths = Over 100 people dead

People that did not take Vaccines For Measles Deaths = 0 deaths

Measles is not a killer disease like cancer that has sky rocketed in number of deaths (over 7000%) in the last 50 years, heart disease or diabetes that are the top 3 killers that the CDC along with the medical establishment does not want to ask why?

Another point that you do not understand is that many viruses metastasis. Measles metastasis. Do yo understand what that means? It means your vaccine is worthless because the DNA of the virus has changed.

Besides if you have a vaccine shot, then you have nothing to worry about right?

To be frank the only people I know that get sick all the time are those that take the vaccines.

I strongly suggest you do your heal homework and do not be so highly gullible and extremely ignorant about this issue. This means reading BOTH SIDES AT THE SOURCE of the debate, and not just what the Wall Street Journal tells you what the other side is saying. I would bet the Wall Street Journal has investments in these vaccine companies. Hence, follow the money.

In any event you will quickly realize that the health profession has been politicized. It’s just like science with the “global warming” rubbish or education push of “Common Core”. Trust me I’ve done the homework and stay very active. It’s no longer about health.

I’ll put it to you this way. I use to go to see a Doctor all the time. I got sick 3 or 4 times a year every year. I kept slowly getting worse and the Doctors could never explain why, but they only wanted to treat the symptoms. My allergies kept getting worse over time too.

I then took a 40 hour health course back in 2008. I have not been sick ever since. I no longer get the common cold, and I have not had allergies in years. I’ve been in places where everyone around me was sick, and I was the only person that did not catch anything.

If you listen to the modern day medicine then you are going to end up dead. You do know what they put in the vaccine’s right or do you think they love you like Barney the Dinosaur?

This is just like how 85% of the doctors that administer Chemo and Radiation therapy would never take it their selves. Just think they give it to the customers, and most would never do it. What do they know that they are not telling their customers? Moreover, there is a high amount of doctors and politicians that do not take vaccines. Gee.... I wonder why?

There is a health risk associated with getting those diseases. They are not benign. They can put some people in the hospital and even kill them….My step father had the mumps as a child and was sterile as an adult.

When I was an infant, my older brother came down with the Mumps at 12 years old (1961). He seemed to be recovering just fine and was getting better but then suddenly spiked a very high fever and had delirium and hallucinations and was admitted to the hospital. He had developed a rare but often very deadly complication of the Mumps - Meningitis.

He was in a very deep coma for over two weeks; he had to put on a ventilator in order to breath and his veins started collapsing to the point that the IV’s were not working. The doctors told my parents that even “if” he recovered, came out of the coma, that he had a high likely hood of permanent brain damage. My parents were Catholics and this was a Catholic hospital although his doctor was Jewish. When my parents asked his Jewish doctor what could be done for my brother, all he said was “Pray and Pray hard”. At one point my brother’s heart rate and BP dropped dangerously low and he was given Last Rites by our family priest. My parents even started considering making his funeral arrangements – his condition was just that dire.

My brother rather miraculously came out of his coma and lived and eventually recovered fully, but he had a very long road ahead of him.

He spent over two months in the hospital recovering. The meningitis had screwed with his brain enough to point that his motor skills were seriously messed up. For several weeks, he couldn’t walk, couldn’t feed himself (he would try to use a spoon to put food up to his mouth and would end up with the spoon in his cheek or forehead, much like a baby learning to use a spoon for the very first time), and had trouble talking – he knew what he wanted to say but often couldn’t find the words or the words would come out all jumbled up.

One of his fondest memories of his time spent in the hospital was getting to ride around the entire hospital in his wheel chair. FWIW, the administrator of this hospital was a no nonsense nun who was also an MD who also had a Ph.D. But she saw my brother as a miracle of God’s Grace and she let him do pretty much anything he wanted other than to skip his daily physical therapy sessions which she personally supervised and she also would spend time with him working on puzzles and playing card games with him and grilling him on his Catechism in his room, sometimes late into the night to help him re–learn his motor skills and speech.

I have in my possession family photos of my brother before and after his illness that started out as just a simple case of the childhood Mumps. The pictures I have from just before my brother fell ill and holding me as an infant, was that of a strong and healthy strapping boy of 12 who looked much older than 12 years old and someone who played sports, to after his illness, a very rail thin and pale and weak looking boy who looked very much younger than he was and who looked like holding me as a baby was a struggle.

It took several years for him to fully recover. While my brother was and is very bright, he was never a good student in school and after missing several months of school, he had trouble catching up and was held back a grade, something that I think he resented and never recovered from emotionally and probably led to him dropping out the 12th grade.

But after this experience, my parents made darn sure and where very diligent that I got all my vaccinations. They never wanted me to experience what they and my older brother went through

Kind of ironic that children can’t take home baked goods to the classroom but they can take the measles.

What medical school taught you that????

Medical schools have their purpose....but they are not the experts in certain areas, as YOU must know...sheesh....did you hear Rand Paul today talking about how he made sure his children got their vacs over time, instead of the intense schedule that is pushed....how many vacs is there by the time a baby is 36 months old? HHmmmmm....I'm just asking questions....

No. Viruses do not “metastasis”. That is what cancer cells do.

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=4363

Perhaps the word you were looking for was “mutate”.

Viruses mutate but some more than others. Measles is one of those viruses that mutates very slowly overtime and without much genetic drift. If that were not the case, a person who once came down with measles could come down with it again and again such as we do with rapidly mutating viruses like the common cold (a rhinovirus) or influenza and one would have to as with influenza, get a new measles vaccine once a year.

Whatever 40 hour “health” course you took, I hope it was free otherwise you really need to ask for your money back.

Yes it was a typo. I meant mutate. Anyhow, you know what I meant.

Let’s see I have not been sick in 7 years now, and you are saying that I got ripped off? Oh okay.....LOL!

I’m glad you admit it mutates. Although you say it’s slow to imply the vaccine is the same mutation.

Do you know how long it takes to come up with a vaccine, test it, get it approved and then mass produce for distribution? LOL!

My daughters aren’t sexually active yet, so there is no point to it. Before they become sexually active they will have to decide. They have a cousin whose husband cheated on her, and she had to go through all sorts of testing for STDs. My daughters know that they can catch them even if they only have sex with their spouse, and will have to weigh whether or not to get that shot.

Actually, vaccinating elderly with the flu shot is worthless...

Govt. Researchers: Flu Shots Not Effective in Elderly, After All

A VERY small sample. The link contains an actual interview with one of the study's researchers.

"So the NIH launched an effort to do “the” definitive study that would actually prove, for the first time, once and for all, that flu shots were beneficial to the elderly. The government would gather some of the brightest scientific minds for the research, and adjust for all kinds of factors that could be masking that presumed benefit.

But when they finished, no matter how they crunched the numbers, the data kept telling the same story: flu shots were of no benefit to the elderly. Quite the opposite.

The death rate had increased markedly since widespread flu vaccination among older Americans. The scientists finally had to acknowledge that decades of public health thought had been mistaken.

The flu shot is faux medicine. No other country in the world pushes the flu shot on the elderly.

“Your link is quite suspect.”

In my experience, people who say this seem unable to process the content of the link and instead try to attack the link itself. I like evaluating facts. To each their own.

I suggest you read the interview and the linked information.

But perhaps you should have linked to the government data rather than someone’s opinion of the government data. Let the data speak for itself.

Before I make up my mind, if a child hasn’t been vaccinated but contracts measles somehow (likely from another unvaccinated child), can that child infect one that has been vaccinated?

I thought the whole idea of vaccination was to give that vaccinated child immunity so how can it be at risk?.

Good question. Another way to rephrase it is, "Do vaccinations work, or do they not work?" This is the most puzzling thing about the entire argument for vaccinations. It brings many to a foaming rage when you mention concerns with vaccination safety, however if they work so effectively, then why would any vaccinated child be at risk of those not vaccinated?

Why not let families who have faith based concerns "live and let live". Are they protecting us from ourselves?
