Walker Squirms on Immigration
National Review Online ^ | February 1, 2015 | Nick Tell

Scott Walker is decidedly not for amnesty for undocumented immigrants. But what immigration policy is he for?

The Wisconsin governor, fresh off a speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit that earned rave reviews, and currently enjoying a popularity surge — he’s just pulled ahead of the Republican presidential pack in Iowa for the first time — stopped by ABC’s This Week earlier today for an interview with Martha Raddatz.

After grilling Walker on foreign policy and getting him to say he wouldn’t rule out sending ground troops to Syria, Raddatz shifted the conversation to immigration. Stipulating that Walker supported securing the southern border and fixing the nation’s immigration system, Raddatz began this portion of her interview by asking Walker point-blank, “what would you do about the 11 million undocumented who are still here?”

"Wait... is someone trying to tell me that all conservatives won’t agree on all issues all of the time?"

Illegal immigration is not just an issue...it is THE ISSUE!

All other issues well be adversely effected by illegal immigration.

We need to get this right; right now the best I can determine Walker was for amnesty before he was against it, the fact he has to clarify his position should make one suspicious, does he mean what he says; or does he mean something different; we have quite enough of that nonsense.

If anyone of the GOP running for POTUS can’t enforce immigration then we don’t need to vote for them..

Immigration

Waste in Government

Pipeline

Downsizing Government (In fact they only need to be in Washington D.C. for 180 days, after that they need to be in their States working for the people that voted for them)

Supporting Israel

Enforcing OUR laws that has made America the greatest country in the world, and that includes putting GOD back in our Government

Education (getting rid of Common Core)

If they can’t do this, we don’t need to vote or back them..

Who’s this Nick Tell clown who appears to have started writing for NR yesterday? Looks like a young GOPe lacky?

There’s not an amnesty-supporting pol on the planet who claims he’s for amnesty. Walker is however on the record as saying he’d legalize the illegals here now, before eventually giving them citizenship.

And his solution to future illegals is to make it so easy for everyone in world—from Mexico or any other country, he says—to come here legally that there’d be no incentive for them to come here illegally.

Walker goes beyond amnesty to advocate virtual open borders!

If illegal immigrants could not get jobs, some would leave, but not many.

Ridiculous, with no means of support illegals would go home.. Don't blow smoke up my butt.

There’s a concerted effort to run Walker down.

Not by me.

I thought the guy was a warrior and a hero for his statehouse battles in Wisconsin, and I'd like to be able to vote for him.

But I can't understand why at this point he wouldn't have formulated a better immigration stance than "That's not what I'm advocating as well."

Really? Does he think conservatives are going to swallow that?

I don't understand why a guy as smart as Walker can't see that we are begging for a candidate to speak clearly and forcefully.

The law is the law and illegals are not due any rights, any benefits, any favors. End of story.

Try not paying 10% of your taxes, they would hunt you down and make you pay. It is all in the priorities. It is absolutely possible to do it and to be no less aggressive with the enforcement than they are with tax collection.

Want to end illegal immigration?

1) Make it a felony to enter illegally.
2) make it a felony to over stay your guest visa punishable by 2 years and a lifetime ban on another visa.
3) make hiring an illegal a felony. Penalty $10,000 fine and 18 months in prison per incident served consecutively. To be served by the company President, Board Chairman and VP of HR. I assure you, only ONE company would ever get caught.
4) Make ID theft for purposes of employment a felony with a ten year sentence of hard labor, BUILDING A BORDER FENCE!
5) Build a double wall 25’ razor wire topped fence with guard towers every mile and man it with the border patrol 24/7/365.
6)phase out welfare benefits for any able bodied person and tighten the requirements for disability.

There will be no illegal aliens after that.

So do I. He should have told her ‘ahhhh, it's a trick question - there's more than 11 million illegals in the Country’.

Definitely not a squish, but he’s pragmatic. Because of years of neglect and Dem malfeasance, this is a problem without a clean solution.

Exactly right on both points! Thank you.

If we nominate someone who will grant citizenship to illegals...

And, we did, in the "R" party. Going back as far as the eye can see. It's Conservatives turn now, for once, we can go with the guy that won't under any circumstances grant citizenship to criminaliens.

I watched the video, and he didn’t seem too squirmy to me. He seems to say pretty clearly that we need to honor the laws we already have, and that he’s not for amnesty.

I’m not going to deny that he’s said some scary stuff about the immigration issue in the past, but if he’s genuinely turned or at least turnING around on it I think we should give him consideration! Again as I’ve said before let’s not turn this into a repeat of 2012 where we circle-bleeped our way into Romney.

Consider: is there anything else other than the immigration issue where he’s worrisome? Abortion? Gun control? Taxes? Govenrment regulation?

Has he said anything in any of those areas of others that is troublesome? Is he like Christie or Bush in other words?

Maybe he’s turning around on immigration that’s all I’m saying now. Let’s give him a chance because he has a proven record against the leftist machinery in his state. Let’s nkt convict him on one thing he said back in 2013.

I agree with you, there would certainly be no illegal aliens if such laws were enacted.

Now just take the existing Congress we’ve got, and try to get them to pass such laws.

He’s for amnesty. Every single pro-amnesty pol claims that it is somehow not amnesty, because they’ll charge some little something or in some fashion pretend to address back taxes or have them wait a bit before they become full citizens or whatever.

Also, though Walker talks about securing the border—another favorite ruse of the GOPe, while they actually fail to do so—he has elsewhere said that he’d do so by simply letting everyone come in legally.

Walker will play the usual political game trying to pretend that he’s not as radical on the issue as he is, but he wouldn’t have the backing of the Kochs the way he does if he hadn’t vowed to act as radically as he has, as recently as within the last two years, already spoken.

Take away their employment and welfare and the majority of illegals will go home without the government having to deport them.

But even if we did have to deport them, it would be far cheaper than keeping 10s of millions of illegals who are majority welfare recipients at least three years into their time here.

Wasn’t Pence the guy who tried to trick us into thinking he wasn’t pro-amnesty by suggesting that illegals go home for a family visit before all being welcomed back here miraculously transformed into legal residents?

Walker is neither a ‘squish’ nor pragmatic, other than now trying to squish around his radical position on illegal immigration.

He’d legal those already here, eventually give them citizenship, and then in the future let anyone in the world who wants to come here to do so so easily legally that they’d have no incentive to try to cross the border illegally.

He’s got the most radical position of a prospective field of candidates that is uniformly pro-amnesty as it is.

Walker is a one trick pony and a phony when it comes to true conservatism. His establishment speak of "immigration reform" = amnesty ...people are seeing right through this guy and the all of the sudden push to make him electable since Mitt pulled out.

This questionaire focuses in on the issue being debated in the Senate. Why not print it up, fill it out by underlining your choice, and sending it to your Senator. In fact why not print up a batch and hand them out to your friends and neighbors.

Dear Senator
INS...Amnesty.. Forget about Ebola
We don’t allow cattle to enter without a background health and ancestry check which we also reqiure of legal immigrants who wait years and still go thru health and record checks. We also require that any legal immingrant demonstrate prior to entry that they offer a contribution to our society and not dependency upon it .

Yet we’re letting children and gang bangers in without doing any of this which has resulted in dispersing virulent new diseases (measles) and drug use which has resulted in unreported cases in schools where these illegal kids were placed.. Plus shoved a severe financial strain on local governments where they are placed .

Should any candidate for Attorney General supporting that practice be denied confirmation ?(Yes) (No) .Should those given this bypassed favored treatment who miss their INS hearing be deported fortwith ? (Y) (N).. ? Denied re-entry (Y)(N) ?

In “countries where an American citizen decides to be a “legal” emigree never mind being a seasonal visitor are denied voting privledges. Own land in their own name. Face steep fines before getting kicked out if entered illegally and certainly denied income and energy subsistance including food stamps, or bring in family members .
I (do) (don’t) believe we should allow such full citizenship privledges mentioned above which are denied by the country of national origin of the above, to a legal American immigrant , deny such full citizen privledges to any (emigree) (seasonal vistor) (illegal) if their country does not allow those same privledges to any citizen of the United States.

While such a position will be condemed as defacto deportation particularly by the political establishment .Would you continue to support a Senator who refuses to support such restrictions ? (Y) (N) Does that also include erecting border barriers such as fencing designed to discourage surrepticious or uncontolled entry ? (Yes) (No)

Should any American citizen which goes overseas to join a foreign entity fighting against the United States (such as ISIS) Be denied re-entry (Y)(N) and their citizenship revoked? (Y) (N) Should that person be charged with treason (Y)(N)

Very Repectfully Yours
