American Jews living in Israel vote over 80% for the GOP in the last election. Israel is far more conservative that the American Catholic church which is also strongly for national healthcare, open borders, normalizing homosexuality more and more, and other leftist causes. Also note that not one Catholic politician who not only favors, but fully champions abortion has been excommunicated, or denied communion.

But I guess its always more fun to pick on the Jews.

I think you're being a little unfair to this thread.

We could start another thread about why so many Catholics are lefties and favor abortion. Plenty to speculate in that regard for sure. Then we'd be picking on them, I guess.

But this discussion asks a valid question. The majority of voting Jews in the US vote Democrat. Why? Honestly, I stopped trying to understand that years ago. It is what it is, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon, also a fact.

Even supposing there is a lot of "buyer's remorse" regarding Obama among US Jews, I don't see them or any other Dem constituent group having buyer's remorse about the party or liberalism. Obama isn't running in 2016. It will be a different Dem to vote for.

OTOH, I feel a lot of the responsibility for this falls on the corrupt, idiot Republican Party establishment. The GOP has done a piss poor job of selling itself to the Jews. Or anyone else for that matter. What percentage of people that vote Republican are doing so because they literally have no where else to go?? The GOP is NOT conservative, it does not sell a conservative message. It is arguable that it is even offering a viable alternative to the Democrat Socialists. A lot of us are conservative, but the Republican party is not. Conservatives vote Republican out of desperation.

Outside of Reagan, what has been conservative about the Republican party in the last 55 years? And the party did its damnedest to take him down.

Back to the Jews. What has the GOP done to clearly show to US Jews that the Dems are anti-Israel? The Dems are, but the GOP has missed that opportunity completely. Not only has the GOP done a poor job of differentiating itself from the Dems in that regard, it has not been nearly as supportive of Israel as many here seem to believe. Bush's administration was frequently pressuring Israel behind the scenes to give in to the Arabs. And it shoved plenty of money at the so called Palestinian groups that are killing Israelis.

I think the bigger question here is, is the Republican party giving *anyone* a reason to vote GOP in 2016? Given the wholesale screw job the Republican congressional majority has embarked on, the answer to that is a clear no. Conservatives elected Bush & we got 8 years of the Republican version of liberalism. Overall his record reads like a moderate Democrat from the 80s.

If Republicans can't give conservatives a positive reason to vote for them, why would we expect generations of Jews raised as liberals to do so?

Unlike you, I have no sacred cows. And I wasn't picking on Jews, I was countering the statement that only American Jews are liberal.

My apologies if facts disturb you.
