White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest described reports that millions of Americans would be getting tax bill because of Obamacare as "inaccurate" just days after the Treasury Department estimated that 6 million Americans will pay about $2 billion in individual mandate taxes this year.
"I don't think it is accurate to suggest that millions of people are going to get a tax bill as a result of this," Earnest said in response to a question Tuesday about the millions of Americans who will pay a tax penalty for not having health insurance in 2014. "The vast majority of Americans, more than three-quarters of Americans, are just going to have a box to check on their tax form to confirm that they've had health insurance. And so the impact that we are talking about here is very small and for the vast majority of people has been very positive."
While it is true that the vast majority of Americans get their health insurance through their employer, just like they did before Obamacare, it is also true that just last week the Treasury Department estimated that 6 million Americans will have to pay a penalty tax, created by Obamacare, because they did not have health insurance last year. According the Congressional Budget Office, those 6 million Americans will pay about $2 billion in tax penalties.
Worse still, even those Americans who did obtain health insurance through Obamacare exchanges could also face a heavy tax bill come this April. That is because the subsidies given to people who purchase insurance through an Obamacare exchange are calculated on a monthly basis.
Americans who applied for insurance subsidies when they had a lower income, but later got a raise that bumped them up to a lower subsidy level, will get a tax bill from the government for the difference between thru old and new subsidy levels when they file taxes this year. According to H&R Block, another 6 million Americans will have to make such tax payments to the Treasury this year.
My Tye 2 diabetic son went with out health ins. for months last year working only PT so his soon to be ex wife could have breast cancer surgery, chemo and their 12 yr old could be covered.
I suspect he will be hit with the fine. He still has no health ins. The new company he now works for does NOT SEEM TO KNOW YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE HEALTH INS (national Chain) for your employees! He’s made provisional manager in less than 2 months. They have NO ins package. And his Meds for the Diabetes run out in a month. Where the H is he to come up with over $700+ to see a ENDO and have test run?
My sister is having trouble getting my invalid brother who has no health ins. NO job, NO income, in the hospital 17 days now, on Tenncare or SSI disability. Social Worker threatened to dump him on her couch. She is not trained to take care of a total invalid’s health care needs. She works 2 jobs, her husband has MD but is still semi mobile. Developed a Kidney stone this weekend, they just gave him pain pills. They just keep their heads above water income wise if both work.
As long as you aren’t owed a refund they don’t have a way to get it from you (legally).

No worries..............
And how is that going to stop them?
Per the ACA and IRS rules, there is no method for them to directly collect the fee through income withholding or wage garnishment and they cannot audit you for not paying the fine, nor can they charge interest on the fine not paid. The only way the IRS can collect the fine is through taking it out of any return you may have coming.
If you make sure that your withholding is set such that you end up paying in or getting so little back that it doesn’t matter to you, then the IRS doesn’t have a legal means to collect the fine. Most people will pay the 2% of income vs. the $90 fine this year, so what they expected as a return will be gobbled up by the fine.
There will be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth come mid-April this year.
Don't doubt that for a minute, but my point was that this regime is notably cavalier toward legal restrictions, which they seem to think are only meant for other people.
They are lying thru their teeth and I bet it’s a lot more than six million who will have to pay!
I still can’t believe the guy’s name! To “josh” is an old slang term, seldom used now, to mean joking as in, “I ain’t joshin’, no sir, that’s the truth.” Earnest of course means the opposite of that.
I was wondering if that was the direction you were going with the comment. I also eluded to the same when I parenthetically stated “legally” in my original post.
