I smell more ways to waste taxpayer dollars on high tech crap that benefits no one except those who build it and those politicians who get kickbacks from it. The ONLY way this would make sense is if it were CHEAPER than air travel WITHOUT TAXPAYER SUBSIDIES, and with the construction of a vacuum tube this isn’t even close to reality.

Sounds like the ghost of Willie Green has been channeled by someone.

If he wants to spend his money, I say go for it but I suspect like Tesla he will be getting government subsidies.

Actually the only thing that sounds bizarre is: “Solar panels on the top of the tube would provide the energy necessary to keep things moving.”

Yeah, sure. If they build the thing in a typically cloudless desert, in which case who will the riders be?

Other than than there’s nothing bizarre here, just another coastal urbanite mass transit scheme that might be a good idea to build in a region with sufficient population density to support it, but would be delusional to build anywhere else.

Musk isn’t the first with this idea and the principle is sound. The cost is astronomical despite what St Elon says.

Exactly. The idea is almost as old as trains themselves.

The cost estimate may be just slightly optimistic.

Derailment will be a real beotch to clean up. They might lose some of those “eggs” in the forest if they start shooting off the rail at the speed of sound. I don’t think there will be any survivors

I’m sorta getting tired of the great future utopian vision being sold to othere leftist idiots by the left which we know will only go the way of distopian hell as the NWO applies the screws.

Stuff moving in tubes creates pressure. There’s a scientific law about this, Poole’s Law or something.

Where would all of the pressurized air go that would be in front of the train, and what would fill the vacuum behind? The energy needed just to move the air would be huge.

The system would need to be repeatedly opened and closed which means restoring the vacuum often. I suppose airlocs could be used but its only one of the things that would make the system more complicated and expensive.
