Ukraine's crisis has been caused by the West, Russian President Vladimir Putin says, as he considers Franco-German proposals to end fighting between the government and pro-Russia rebels.
Western countries had broken pledges not to expand Nato and forced countries to choose between them and Russia, Mr Putin told an Egyptian newspaper.
The comments come amid new hopes of a peace deal this Wednesday.
Russia denies accusations of sending troops and supplying the rebels.
The fighting in eastern Ukraine has claimed more than 5,300 lives and driven 1.5 million people from their homes.
At least nine Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the past 24 hours, officials say.
Fighting is said to be intense around the town of Debaltseve, near the rebel-held city of Donetsk.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande flew to Moscow on Friday to discuss proposals to end the fighting.
The detailed proposals have not been released but the plan is thought to include a demilitarised zone of 50-70km (31-44 miles) around the current front line.

True, that's why they are not attacking Russia but sometime hoards of radicals can attack Syria, Nigeria, France etc and the Ukraine.
We all watched the videos, it didn't look to peaceful to me.
It's the same charge they used against the Shaw of Iran, Mubarak in Egypt, and Milosovic in Serbia.

Yes they can. Syria has been playing the game with Iran for quite some time. Iran was shipping supplies (read that weapons) to Hezbollah in the South of Lebanon through Iraq then Syria.
Nigeria is probably another African nation with a musical chairs government. None of them seem strong enough or wise enough to remain in power long. France, well, it has made it’s own bed. We seem headed in the same direction.
As for the Ukraine, there’s nothing to brag about there, but it is a sovereign nation. It has a right to screw up just like any other nation. It’s should find it’s own equilibrium without Russian involvement.
It’s holdings should be returned and nations in the region should return to their own territory and comport themselves like a 21st Century player.
The Ukraine did nothing to threaten Russia, but Russia confirmed the reason why any neighbor state would want help for protection from it.

I especially liked today’s Official Ukrainian State propaganda showing “Proof” of Russian Marines and BMD-2’s in Lugansk, that was actually a photo taken in Tula, Russia, two years ago!!!

Depends on how you look at it. What about having sponsored proxies try to seize Russian military ports in Crimea and Syria? How would we react if they did that to our strategic ports? Perhaps a ruble sponsored coup in Cuba that threatened Gitmo? How would we react to that?
