At eleven, most likely she doesn’t care. If she feels anything, it’s probably resentment at being held in custody. In Southeast Asia, a girl of her age would be caring for her younger brothers and sisters plus learning a trade. It’s a matter of expectations and pride and love.
The baby was only two months old and mom needed a break? Isn’t that what dad is for?

In the homeschooling community as well as some Amish communities, girls from about 11 to 14 are seen as mother’s helpers who will entertain a baby while mom gets things done.

...perhaps it is the behavior of an 11 year old who is the child of a crack mom who's boyfriends are violating the child.

I suspect the 11 year old is an undiagnosed psychopath of the extreme kind. If that is the case, it will be very obvious during a mental health evaluation. And if that is the case, there is no real alternative than lifetime institutionalization.
This reminds me of the AA boy in Florida who played wrestlemania with the young girl who was staying with his family. He drop kicked he and beat her so badly that her liver broke in half and was reading at the bottom of her abdomen. His mother ( no father) refused a plea and he was sentenced as an adult, I believe. Later overturned.

There’s not much information here. If there’s a glimmer of sympathy ..... She was probably an exhausted child herself, and imagine a crying 2-month-old with a passed-out mother who left the job to you.
Maybe she got mad at the infant for crying and just wanted her stop. It would have been a juvenile response, but not out of the realm of a child who was angry, alone, and exhausted.
It bugs me when people make children care for their children. I see it in large families, but I don’t respect the parents who do it. There was a family near here who assigned an older child to each of their younger children. One of them was left in a car when the family got home, and she died. I blame the parents for overburdening their older children with a responsibility that should not have been theirs.
What has happened to her since, I can't vouch for. I have retired. However, if any facility had a chance to turn her around, it was this one. Sorry, I wish I could give you outcome data but I cant.
That's right. It is most unnatural, and when the behavior occurs with such remorselessness, it is not very likely to change.
