Before a near-capacity crowd at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center Thursday, former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin said people in Texas and across the nation are in a position to lead, not those in Washington, D.C.
Palin, who was in Midland as part of the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute Distinguished Speaker Series, spoke on the topic Groundbreakers, Mavericks and Trailblazers: How Women Are Showing 21st Century Leadership. JBS Public Leadership Institute Executive Director Bob Brescia and Odessa American Publisher Pat Canty co-moderated the lecture.
Palin said the country is suffering from a dire lack of good leadership, something that will be paramount in the next presidential election.
Whats right in Washington, Palin said, is our history. The country America was built on an expectation of a reward for hard work and development of our natural resources, Palin said.
But Washington is broken. Its amazing what theyre taking away from us in terms of taxes and resources and they are wasting and hiding, Palin said. We dont have to put up with it.
She said people need to be informed about the challenges facing the nation, work hard to elect candidates they believe in, hold them accountable and remind them that the people are the boss and we wont tolerate the shenanigans going on.
If we keep going the way we are, she said, well be bankrupt and no longer a sovereign nation. Were already on the brink now. Thats why 2016 is so important, Palin said....

It looks like Sarah hit the nail right on the head with her speech. The comments couldn’t have been better. I’ll be patiently waiting for the speech to be available.
“...in Midland as part of the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute Distinguished Speaker Series...”
This series always packs them in in Midland. /s
She’s just all kinds of purdy...
So-called "Conservative" commentator Byron York wrote that conservatives were "displeased" with her speech.
But York got his comments from some guy named Clovis who ran against Jodi Ernst in Iowa Senate primary.
Clovis lost, Ernst won. Sarah supported Ernst.
So is there any wonder that Clovis pooh-pooed Sarah's speech? And York used Clovis as his source for all Conservative's opinions?
From that incident I will consider Byron York a jerk not worth listening to any more.
However, this exchange by a beauty pageant contestant earns he scorn and ridicule:"We don't have maps in the US! Lauren Caitlin Upton, Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2007"
Question: "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"
Answer: "I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some . . . people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over HERE in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children".
Palin is a gifted politician. What better way to lower expectations than to give a mediocre speech in IA to throw off the MSM? That's where the rope-a-dope comment comes in.
And yes, the speech wasn't among her best even if the teleprompter broke.
