I brought this passage to a pastor who once had a talk show and he said Damascus has been destroyed many times through the ages so this prophecy has already been fulfilled. What gives? I thought Damascus was the oldest continually populated city in the world. Still don't understand. Prophecy of this sort is tricky.

Most Middle Eastern cities have been destroyed and rebuilt on the same site many times.

There are Christians like that. I meet ones who tell me the entire Book of Revelation was fulfilled in 70AD, which is so easily disputed it is almost laughable. That Isaiah prophecy points towards, in my opinion, a nuclear warhead.
