So he’s not an eye doctor?

I have my various troubles with the good doctor but is the Post trying to say he’s not a doc?

The guy is an ophthalmologist. He learned a lot of biology going through medical school. The Compost will do anything to denigrate and ridicule a Republican. Ah yes, the double standard tactic revs into gear ahead of 2016.

All the Washington Post did was go to Wikipedia and pulled Rand Paul’s bio. Investigative reporting….. another lie. Here is what Wikipedia says,

“Paul attended Baylor University from fall 1981 to summer 1984 and was enrolled in the honors program. During the time he spent at Baylor, he was involved in the swim team and the Young Conservatives of Texas and was a member of a secret organization known as the NoZe Brotherhood.[22] Paul also regularly contributed to The Baylor Lariat.[20] Paul left Baylor early, without completing either his Bachelors degree in biology or in English[23], when he was accepted into the Duke University School of Medicine. At the time, Duke did not require an undergraduate degree for admission to its graduate school. He earned a M.D. degree in 1988 and completed his residency in 1993.[“

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rand_Paulat

So Rand Paul was in the honors program at Baylor University. He was so intelligent that Duke University accepted him without a degree... when he was close to getting his bachelor’s degree from Baylor. Finally Rand Paul attended and graduated with an MD from Duke University.

That’s what really happened and I’m sure that’s probably the case with many doctors in our society. Actually I did hear about this before with other doctors and thought of it as nothing unusual. It made me think wow that person must be really intelligent.

He obviously studied biology as an undergrad if he went to med school. Maybe he didn’t major in it. Who cares. The compost once again nitpicking a Republican’s college days. Meanwhile....choom-gang is in the freakin White House.

Rand Paul’s claim would not upset an academic institution. Claiming a degree when you have none, or claiming a higher degree than you have is a bad sign regarding the person’s character. Claiming a lower degree that was mostly finished and only abandoned to successfully pursue a higher degree is a case of shorthand, not dishonesty.

As a chemistry major, I hung around with a lot of pre-meds. I knew two pre-med students who got into medical school after three years of college. That was far from the norm, they had to be truly exceptional with perfect grades, a very high score on the mcat, and a great interview with the med school. After they earned their MD, the university then counted the medical degree time towards the remaining year of their undergrad studies and officially gave them their BS. I wonder if Baylor did the same?

I have a biology degree, okay?

I have an econ degree which means I know just enough not to understand any of what our government is [inaudible]”

Paul: “Mine’s in biology and English so this is going to be a great conversation.”

He shouldn't be describing his degree that he doesn't have.

An M.D. is a professional doctorate, as opposed to a Ph.D., which is an academic doctorate. The M.D. involves the professional application of the science involved to cases. The science, in this case, is physiology, a branch of biology. The M.D. IS a biology degree.

Somebody else pointed out that an Engineering Degree is a math degree. Correct. An applied math degree.

The following is from the first paragraph of the wikipedia entry:

[The M.D. is} a terminal degree for physicians and surgeons. In some countries it is a professional doctorate where training is entered after obtaining between 90 and 120 credit hours of university level work
