DOD Report Details Israel's Quest for Hydrogen Bomb (Obama releases intel on Israeli nuke program)

In the midst of controversy over the Israeli prime minister's plans to address Congress next month, a researcher has won the release of a decades-old Defense Department report detailing the U.S. government's extensive help to Israel in that nation's development of a nuclear bomb.

"I am struck by the degree of cooperation on specialized war making devices between Israel and the US," said Roger Mattson, a former memer of the Atomic Energy Commission technical staff.

The 1987 report, "Critical Technology Assessment in Israel and NATO Nations," compares the key Israeli facilities developing nuclear weapons to Los Alamos and Oak Ridge National Laboratories, the principal U.S. laboratories that developed the bomb for the United States.

The tightly held report notes that the Israelis are "developing the kind of codes which will enable them to make hydrogen bombs. That is, codes which detail fission and fusion processes on a microscopic and macroscopic level."

The daughter products of the nuclear reaction of the bomb and the immediate target material have various half-lives. This material is raised aloft and falls to earth in a plume shaped by the wind. Downwind of the bomb, the amount of radiation will be such that people could receive a fatal dose for some days afterwards.

1 kt explosive force is about 280 Tim McVeigh bombs, hardly inconsequential, plus the fallout from a low altitude burst from a device loaded with beryllium.

Precisely.

As an aside, I don’t think Obama is a Muslim, although he does emtionally favor them. And I do think he is antisemitic in the fact that he knows he was an affirmative action baby in college, while they earned it. So he feels inferior to them, which brings me to my point.

Obama really is stupid enough to think he had the israel/Arab thing worked out. He was mistaken and rebuffed by BiBi.

This hurt Obamas feelings and made him feel like the failure he is. The result is Obama is striking out at israel because he was shown to be an idiot.

In short, it’s also personal to Obama. It’s all about his thin skin and combination of inferiority and superiority complexes.

The next time Valerie Jarrett steps foot in the Capitol, Boehner should have her arrested as an enemy agent, and thrown into a House jail cell.

PURPOSE OF REPORT
This report describes in scientific terms the technological details of basic research and development program thrusts in Israel and selected European allied nations with possible applications to U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) programs, both tactical and strategic. The report is organized to provide a comprehensive critical assessment of technologies relevant to the new North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) initiatives, Nunn Amendment programs and Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) Organization (SDIO) programs.

The report avoids an analysis of policy issues and problems arlsmg from technology transfer, security and SDI allied participation. It concentrates instead only on technology facets of allied programs and seeks to provide a benchmark against similar kinds of technology already in development in U.S. industry and government laboratories.

Technology assessments covered in this report are based on visits by a team of physicists and engineers to the research laboratories, production plants, and test facilities of 52 companies. The report encompasses data from technology assessments based on a schedule of 28 days available for the survey. This schedule was structured to provide a technological overview and to obtain data to enable identification of efforts that should be further investigated in detail for support by joint U.S.-Allied developmental programs.

This report highlights technologies that could materially aid the DOD in drawing together the alliance in joint programs to provide synergism from technologies on both sides of the Atlantic.

B. SCOPE
Assessment and analyses in the technology report are divided into the two tasks that are identified in the modified contract for this study. The first task calls for identification and assessments of those technologies in Israel that are r~levant to the spectrum of SDIO
programs, with possible spinoffs of those technologies for tactical developments.

A second task in the study is to assess and analyze the technological contributions that each of six nations—West Germany, France, The United Kingdom, Italy, The Netherlands and Denmark—eould make in joint research and development programs in concert with NATO efforts. Visits to these latter two countries were not part of the study contract; however, several visits were made to investigate unique “targets of opportunity.”

The team visits in each of the nations involved were structured to interface with engineers and scientists, not marketing or management personnel. Emphasis also was placed
on visits to industry, with some laboratory exploration.
Visits to national laboratories were generally as a” result of personal contacts by team members with laboratory physicists. Such visits were usually scheduled after working hours and on weekends.

In assessing the allied technologies, the team generally oriented its inquiries along four areas of investigation:
o Surveillance. radar, and command, control and communications
o Armor/Anti-armor technology
o Directed energy weapons
o Sensor technology.

Developmental efforts were discovered in most of the nations that related directly to technologies, products, architectures, integration, operations and joint programs for theater ballistic and cruise missile defense, air defense programs and conventional defense initiatives.

From the Wikipedia article: Following the end of the Cold War, the project was determined to be out of reach of current technology[citation needed] and was formally abandoned in 1992 GHWB

Now the U.S. can't do a thing about Iran (not that hussein would anyway) without doing something about the Israeli program.

Israel is NOT a member of the NPT and has never been. Thus they are non signatory and are not in violation of any international treaty.

Iran is signatory to the NPT and stands in clear and repeated violation of the treaty and several UN security council resolutions against enrichment.

Israel has the technical capability to build a nuclear weapon. If Pakistan, North Korea, China, and India can build one, there is little doubt that Israel can do it with or without US help.

They’ll have to be evacuated by shielded APC afterwards, though.

For how long are there aftereffects? I though it was safe immediately after the initial detonation.

I was assuming that the fireball never touched the ground.I thought that in that case, the super heated gas from the detonation would be high in the atmosphere.

...Germany could have been first to have the atomic bomb. Then what?

We'd be either sprechen Deutsch or part of the resistance, sneaking down from the hills at night to off some Nazis.

If the Commander in Chief issued an order to the military to shoot British jets from the sky, what would those generals do?

If the Commander in Chief ordered the military to shoot Israeli jets from the sky, what would those generals do?

What WOULD they do? Who knows? What they SHOULD do is round up a couple of Special Forces units to remove the traitor from the White House and turn him over for trial by military tribunal.
