Well, a really strict following of the Old Testament would have you kill a neighbor who was caught outside his home mowing the lawn on the Sabbath, and there are many cases where the penalties for not following the rules are death. I do get your drift, though, that if we stuck to at least the first ten of the Commandments things would run better.
