People who are bedridden get bed sores and the top layers of skin die from lack of proper circulation. Look at someone's arm or leg after they have a cast taken off, it's disgusting and it smells, but it also returns to normal in a few days.

Yes. Even though nurses do their best to keep those in their care clean, there is simply no substitute for bathing in water with soap.
