The idea that the mainstream media both loathes and fears Scott Walker is quickly moving past the stage of being a theory and into the realm of facts. Whether it’s attempting to make something out of his lack of a college sheepskin or dreaming up comments to make about cheese, the time honored practice of trying to tear down Republican contenders is well underway. Unfortunately for the talking heads, poll numbers are part and parcel of their business, and as NBC’s First Reads is forced to admit, the Scott Walker train looks to be picking up a head of steam.
There are two big takeaways from our new NBC/Marist polls of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina that we released yesterday. First, with less than a year before the first nominating contests, the Republican presidential field is wide open — seven different possible GOP candidates get double-digit support in at least one of the states. Second, only two potential candidates (former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker) are in double digits in ALL three states. So call Bush and Walker your very early 2016 Republican frontrunners.
Walker trails Huckabee (the frontrunner) by only two points in Iowa, 17 to 15. The Wisconsin Governor is in second place behind Jeb in New Hampshire, 18 to 15. He’s currently in third place in South Carolina with 12%, but let’s be honest… that’s only because they included Lindsey Graham in the poll and he came in first on his home turf with 17%, a number which won’t be transferring to any other states in the next eight months as near as I can tell. Without Graham in the race, it would be interesting to see how he stacks up against Bush, who scored 15% in the same survey.
This must be driving the Powers That Be to distraction. They really seem to have a burning hatred of Walker because of the reputation he established for taking on public worker unions in general and teachers unions in particular. Those are hugely popular among liberals and one of the funding backbones of the Democrats. But the Crazy Tea Party label just isn’t sticking on the rather reserved, get down to business image that Walker projects. And his tenacious refusal to lose one election after another in a legitimately blue to purple state makes him an actual threat which must be eradicated before we get to the serious debate season and the rest of the country begins catching on.
What will they do next? I don’t know yet, but I can assure you that there are DNC oppo research teams turning and burning 24/7 to figure out something.
huh? but I thought that all of this time that Bush and Christie were the front runners. You mean that all NBC polls have been made up?
Where does he stand on amnesty? Understand Grover Norquist is behind him, that sounds like the Bush/Obama border policy to me.
For those of you that somehow think Walker is some sort of GOPe sleeper cell all you need to know is that Karl Rove doesn’t like him.
By the way, the leftys were protesting outside Walkers home tonight.

Walker is Plan B if Jeb flames out.
There will be an amnesty GOP nominee.
I hope we can prevent that by nominating Cruz, but history and the rules as set by those who want amnesty make that a tough climb.

Well that’s good news. All I know of him really is his state teacher battles. But don’t know where he stands on immigration. And I read here on FR yesterday that Norquist is in his camp.
So im open either way right now, but need more info.

I have my doubts about Cruz’s ability, but he cannot be worse than either of those two.
The “Cruz or bust” camp will never stop attacking Walker.

People on Freep aren’t getting a more conservative guy who is possibly electable than Scott Walker.
I understand the Cruz love. I like him too. But the media has already painted him as a crazy partisan. With Walker, the left has spent four years and two hundred million plus and the best they can come up with is that he’s a politician who cuts funding for their pet programs and unions.
Walker is a self made man who lives in a modest home with wife and two well raised sons. The fact he didn’t graduate from college makes him even more appealing to a lot of voters who feel the system is run by a bunch of Harvard elites and multi-millionaires.
I wonder if Cruz is aware that many of us want him on either end of the ticket.
This guy is a fighter and a winner and a commie slayer.
He needs to get some scary looking dudes to always appear with him so he looks ready to kill.
He really, really, really, needs to.

I just checked the polling and he’s not doing great. My first pick, Perry, is still in single digits (but doing better). Huckabee is still soaking up a ton of votes he won’t be able to hold onto.
I really do think Walker is a post turtle, and Jeb basically is simultaneously made and broken by being a Bush.
My biggest issues are reining in immigration, securing our border, and foreign policy competence.
Scott Walker “Being in Contention” for President really has to cheese-off some of the folks at NBC/CNBC/MSNBC, since they tried SO VERYHARD to destroy him just a couple of years ago.
If Walker were a Democrat, they’d be quaking in fear of retribution,
