yes- that was after the fact...his screw ups in Corregidor despite knowing what was coming were monumental...
My uncle was an Army cook (Master Sgt.) in MacArthur’s return.
IMHO: If M’Arthur could have been resupplied with ammo, weapons and replacements,plus had air cover from somewhere, he would have never left the Philippines. The whole Country was not ready for invasion or War generally. If Patton had been in the Philippines instead of Doug, he would have been ordered to leave for Australia as well.
And choosing one Island invasion that did not go well to condemn his whole career seems to be a bit much.
I think now a days we would send SEALS ashore to get first hand intel before invading.
