R ussia has dismissed Ukraine's calls for UN-mandated peacekeepers to enforce a shaky cease-fire deal in the country's east.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich said on February 19 that the truce agreement signed in Minsk last week should remain the basis for the conflict's resolution.
He also said Kyiv was responsible for making sure the accords were carried out.
Ukraine called for peacekeepers to enforce the cease-fire after government troops withdrew from the strategic town of Debaltseve following intense fighting against Russian-backed separatists.
President Petro Poroshenko's request was approved by Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council at an emergency meeting late on February 18.
Poroshenko told the council that "the best format would be a police mission from the European Union."

You are correct.
Putin’s ceasefire means that his “rebels” can do whatever they want and Ukrainians are not supposed to fire back. Ridiculous how Merkel and Hollande still think diplomacy and that kind of agreements are the way forward. Russia has never honored agreements.

The EU will not step in another country’s civil war.
Russia has said “NO” to the UN.
Kiev isn’t willing to admit the Donbass is lost - maybe for good.
A year after the Maidan revolution in Kiev, Ukraine has basically fallen apart, has scant economic prospects and its army is incapable of holding what is left of the country together.
Was tweaking Russia’s nose really worth it? Yanukovich tried to pursue the balanced policy of his predecessors to keep the country a go-between Russia and Europe.
Its no longer certain even Europe wants what’s left of Ukraine.
