I guess he realized that there’s a time for beer summits and then there’s a time for some serious shooting in order to remain free of oppression.
That is all that most folks remember. The truth is that Ghandhi tried violent means first. He wasn't a pacifist all his life, he only adopted that camouflage after trying other methods. In that regard, he is one of the most successful propagandist in history.
