This article makes no sense. There has to be another reason, an ulterior motive.

I would agree. I suspect it's related to their recently cancelling healthcare plans for most employees - maybe the pay raise is merely the former employer portion of their previous insurance fees being added to their pay. Or maybe it has something to do with wanting 'To Be The Number One Healthcare Provider In The Industry' .

I'm pretty sure that Walmart was, and is, pro-Ocare. This pay raise will cost them a couple hundred million now but they'll get a couple billion on the back end as they dump employees into the government system.
