"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton |
|
"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldnt make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan |
|
"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792 |
|
"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams |
|
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

NASA is about space exploration. If leftists are going to divert it to studying global warming and such crap then just gut it and mothball it until such time that grownups arrive in government - if that ever happens again

I was a charter member of the Planetary Society. I resigned when I saw the world socialist direction Louis Friedman, Bruce Murray and Carl Sagan were trying to take it — paid for with my and others’ contributions. I’m still sizing Cruz up as a Presidential candidate but I’m with him all the way on this. Friedman is a socialist jerk.

We can get out into the solar system. To Mars, maybe, without getting the people on board killed. But that’s about it. Just not practical until real money, and time are put into RnD for new methods of propulsion, and sustainability in zero and low gravity.
NASA certainly shouldn’t be observing global warming, the science is settled, it’s bad science, global warming does not exist. The models are flawed, and this has been proven.
But we shouldn’t be sending men and women out into the solar system to die either. It’s not that hard to get into space, landing safely on a gravity well and taking off again is the problem.
One thing I would be all for is building a “generation ship” in space, and sending it.....somewhere.
Space is simply......too big.

They should have built upgraded versions of the shuttle instead of going backwards and using rockets again.
The single stage to orbit spaceplane never panned out.

This sounds like good news. Cruz wants to go back to the moon and especially Mars.
To: sagar
I’m happy to fund Defense, NASA, and Intelligence which generally benefit every state.

To go where? A rock we call the moon? There’s nothing there.
Likely nothing on Mars either.

You’re right; there isn’t.. until we get there.
Any outpost or colony will have to become as self-sufficient as possible, since just getting there is the most expensive part. The Apollo program to the moon should be used as an example of what NOT to do.
Expanding the habitat for humans is good. And then there’s ‘commanding the high ground’, and all that.

Will be such an awesome change of pace to have the National Aeronautics and Space Administration actually be about Aeronautics and Space Administration first and foremost.
I can’t wait to see the reaction if Ted Cruz manages to bring NASA back to where it was at its peak when it was actually breaking new ground in space exploration.
To: GeronL
Except there shortly will be no money remaining to fund anything - not even bottle rocket launches or even NASA it self.
All discretionary funding will have to be eliminated in order to continue to fund entitlements. At some point in the future people will wonder at the notion of “discretionary spending” and how any one could be so frivolous.
