Already, the artificial island built on Fiery Cross Reef has eclipsed Taiwan’s Taiping Island as the largest in the Spratly Chain, and buildings are under development on several other Chinese reefs. Well, as much as aircraft carriers cost, maybe it’s just cheaper and easier for China to build stationary, dirt aircraft carriers.
One solid hit by a typhoon and all that dirt will relocate just a few hundred yards away and all that effort will be wasted.
....and easier to target.
If your strategy is one of sea-denial in a local area, this makes sense. No need to spend $2B on just one ship, not counting planes and support vessels. Hard to sink an island.
The only good thing to come out of a war with China is Free Trade will be dead forever.
Yes I know we need to find out, but why does everything read like we are brain dead? Of course they are building artificial islands to project their air and sea power. Very aggressive and dangerous development.
