WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Democrats on Wednesday signed onto a Republican plan to fund the Homeland Security Department without the immigration provisions opposed by President Barack Obama. The announcement by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid put the Senate on track to pass the bill as a partial agency shutdown looms Friday at midnight.
"It's an important step to be able to send to the House of Representatives a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security," Reid told reporters after a closed-door meeting with fellow Democrats. "We look forward to working with our Republican colleagues in the next 24 hours to get this done. All eyes now shift to the House of Representatives as soon as we pass our clean funding bill."
The House's response was uncertain. Earlier Wednesday, House Republicans reacted tepidly at best to the plan from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who proposed decoupling the issue of DHS funding from immigration.
House Speaker John Boehner declined repeatedly to say what he would recommend to his conservative, fractious rank-and-file if the funding bill clears the Republican-controlled Senate.
"I'm waiting for the Senate to act. The House has done their job," he said after a closed-door meeting of the rank-and-file. Even so, lawmakers were told to be prepared to spend the weekend in the Capitol to resolve the issue.
Boehner and McConnell were to meet on the issue later Tuesday.

I seriously doubt Scott Walker has anything to teach Ted Cruz. The fact that Walker is polling number one a year and a half prior to the election likely means he will be a non event after a few debates. I don’t see him as the GOP nominee. Not even close.
I am talking about how Cruz bragged about having principles and when they became important, he went along with Reid. What is astounding to me about that is that nobody is wondering why Cruz has helped destroy the country. Very strange. The bill was supposed to stop funding for Homeland Security to stop Obama’s EO on Immigration, but Cruz didn’t want to stop the immigration bill.....very strange.
I would not count Walker out.. He does have the balls to go against the rats and win. He’s won 3 elections in 4 years.
Although I would prefer Cruz over walker at the top of the ticket as well.
“What is astounding to me about that is that nobody is wondering why Cruz has helped destroy the country. Very strange”
What’s very strange is that you think Ted Cruz has helped to destroy the country. What’s bizarre is that you still want to put him up for Vice President. LOL!
Well I do want him to be VP, but he needs to stop voting for stupid crap like he did today. That is what I mean, but I understand you have a flare for the dramatics so you have to show yourself....no problem though....love ya anyhow.
If both Ted Cruz and Mike Lee voted for the measure, something else is going on. There is another shoe to fall...somewhere.

The only thing anybody is wondering about is what went through your brain to accuse Ted Cruz of all people of trying to destroy the country. When you spout insanity somebody is bound to point it out. You can always count on me. :-)
Obviously you do not keep track of politics and certainly not bills that were passed. Last week Cruz was bragging about stopping immigration at all cost and will ensure that the Homeland Security will go on furlough and will ensure that immigration with deportation is included in the bill. As soon as they took the immigration part out of the bill, Cruz was all over keeping Homeland Security operating. I will give you one thing....Cruz is a great speaker and a one term Senator....he probably would fit in the White House with what we have now since they are very similar.
I agree.
Heritage Action said a yes vote on this would be scored as pro-amnesty.
Which means that by Heritage Action’s standards Cruz and Lee are now both “pro amnesty”
Neither of them is dumb enough to do that without something else going on. Especially considering that if they voted No the procedural move would have still passed by 96-4.
“Cruz is a great speaker and a one term Senator....he probably would fit in the White House with what we have now since they are very similar.”
But you still want to nominate him for Vice President? If Ted Cruz is like Barack Obama why on earth would you want to nominate him for Vice President?
I don’t know how you got so off base on Ted Cruz that you can’t seem to back off it. I would suggest you quit while you just sound foolish. Because you really do sound foolish bashing one of a handful of people in our legislature that almost everyone acknowledges is a true conservative patriot.
There is nobody except you who believes Ted Cruz is trying to destroy America and actually posts it on FR.

I was pissed at his dumb vote. Governor Walker would not only never vote for such crap, but would have ensured that it never was a clean bill to begin with.
You are halfway there. Ted Cruz has not yet made a stupid vote. He never votes the wrong way. He has never voted for Amnesty. He is totally opposed to amnesty. Sometimes the procedural votes are deceptive.
Its OK to want Walker for President. You don’t have to try to diss on Cruz for that. Actually we have no clue how Walker would have voted because he has never been in the Senate or the US House of Reps. He’s a governor he never votes on anything. In the past Walker has made very unsettling remarks about immigration.
Personally I watched Walker’s speech today at CPAC. It was a good speech but until he shows me the money in a debate or two where he is forced to commit to stands on immigration, gay marriage, tax reform etc I am not going to coronate the guy just because he ran the unions out of WI.

Even I agree with you on that, but that goes for Cruz too. Both Walker and Cruz are very different but probably agree on most. I am ALWAYS a nervous wreck during primary season and normally end up incredibly disappointed. I am sick that conservatives threw Santorum to the curb in 2012 and ended up with Romney so I am playing offense this time around....anyone who is weak on anything is going to be called out whether a procedure vote or whatever. We cannot afford another 2012 because conservatives didn’t think Santorum was 100 percent.......well dang Romney must have been according to them. Take Romney over Santorum....what freaking idiots.
