The World View in Five Minutes February 25th, 2015

This is THE WORLD VIEW in 5 Minutes. I’m Adam McManus.

As it turns out, God still controls the weather patterns, and Congress does not! They’re calling it a snow-pocalypse on the East Coast. And they are not calling it global warming. Washington DC broke a 120 year low temp record last weekend. And Boston has cleared 100 inches (or 8 feet) of snow, and is expected to top its all time season record. Syria reports more kidnappings by Isis. An additional 90 women, children, and elderly have been reported missing in recent days.

Phyllis Sorter, an American Methodist Missionary named Phyllis Sorter was kidnapped Monday from a school in Nigeria. Kidnappers are asking for $300,000 in ransom.

Nigeria is experiencing major unrest, from Boko Haram and other militant Islamic groups. The Church of the Brethren claims over 1200 churches destroyed, 8,000 members killed, and 700,000 members displaced. Dr. Danny McCain teaches at Global Scholars in Jost, in north central Nigeria. . . He tells of the suffering experienced by Christians in the immediate area. 20 sec. . .

The Atlanta fire chief, fired for his views on homosexuality has gained some political support from the Georgia House. Six members have requested reinstatement for Kelvin Cochrane, claiming the city violated fundamental principles of free speech and religious freedom. Cochrane says that it is his faith in God that enabled him to do his job for the Atlanta Fire Department; 20 sec. . .

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven:

Alaska is the 3rd state to legalize both sales and possession of Marijuana. Alaskans approved the measure in the last election by a narrow margin. . . follow Colorado and Washington State. Washington DC plans to legalize possession.

“The works of the flesh include drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Cyber criminals have found more treasures on earth, where moth and rust corrupt and where thieves break in and steal. Reports indicate computer hackers lifted a record-breaking $1 billion from international banks, mostly in Russia and Eastern Europe in this last spree.

What may be the weakest domino in Europe’s economic system is back seeking debt restructuring. The Eurozone has saved the day for Greece, with a four month extension of aid. The nation’s debt burden remains over 175% of its GDP. The debtor is servant to the lender.

The 21 beheadings last week have touched off a firestorm of evangelism in North Africa. The Bible Society of Egypt reports its largest campaign yet, with 1.65 million tracts distiruted in a single week.

Researchers from Sydney Australia, have found that angry outbursts increase your chance for a heart attack by 8.5 X. No surprise. , “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” By God’s providence, superbug has killed two people in North Carolina. An additional 18 cases of this anti-biotic resistant bacteria have been identified at UCLA Medical Center.

Is. 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things.

That is THE WORLD VIEW, in 5 minutes. I’m Adam McManus Reporting.

I recognize the style of the article as similar to that of Warner Ted...I think it was Armstrong back in the fifties, and the sixties when I would listen to radio.

As my hearing got worse, and worse I quit listening to radio.

That’s interesting. I’ll look Ted Warner up.

I think this is a brilliant form of newscast: simultaneously thought provoking and entertaining with a scriptural refrain. I plan to post these regularly if they get a good response.

My error. Sorry ‘bout that. It was Garner Ted Armstrong. You will find who I remember under that name.

Further to the story of the radio. Was in the late fifties, early sixties I had a radio that for some reason would only play a country station (I wasn’t fond of country then, nor now, but it was all the radio would play), and Garner Ted Armstrong often broadcast his brief update of the World situation with his scriptural insights. I got to the point of actually waiting for them before I would leave for wherever I was going to go. I really enjoyed his commentary.
