The existence of that email, clearly made after the hard drive crash, and it’s failure to be turned over originally, could be a key piece of evidence of a coverup, since the hard drive crash excuse wouldn’t apply. So why wasn’t it turned over?

Possibly out of the time frame of requested emails, I suppose.
