Even though he may have not touched a drop in 20 or 30 years? That's holding the speaker to an impossibly high standard--like um, perfection. Just because he didn't bring up his past doesn't mean he can't speak to the issue. Is he currently unfaithful? If he is that would be hypocrisy. While I don't follow Duck Dynasty and generally don't make comments about them it just seems to me that if a person confronts popular culture he or she is held to a different standard. From what I know of Phil and clan, he believes sincerely in grace and forgiveness and would probably hold out forgiveness to anyone regardless of the behavior. Disagree with the man if you will, disagree with his controversial statements. But don't hold him to a different standard than the standard you hold of a friend who agrees with you."

The sinful spend a great portion of their time and energy engaging in lust, violence, greed, and all the rest, and the rest of their energy attacking anyone who points out the Truth about their own sinful condition. Well said. In fact, when it comes to alcohol and drug use, there is nobody more qualified to condemn it and issue warnings than the reformed addict.
If someone who had never consumed alcohol went around lecturing about the perils of it, the same bunch would disqualify him to speak because of his lack of exposure and experience.
