Everybody wants to impeach the president. So do I. But a couple of pesky facts based in reality get in the way. It only takes a simple majority in the House to impeach. That shouldn't be too hard for the Republicans to do, unless Boehner screws it up like he did the HHS funding vote last night where he couldn't get his guys to rally around.

But if the House impeaches and it goes to the Senate for conviction, there quickly becomes the first problem. Conviction requires a 2/3 majority vote, which is 67 Senators, but Republicans only hold 54 seats. They might convince a democRAT or two to vote to convict but the likelyhood of getting 13 cross-over votes is zero. The other complicating fact is historical. No president has ever been convicted of high crimes and misdemeanors in the Senate. None.

So while I understand the anger and emotion of wanting this lawless president impeached, just impeaching him and not convicting him will damage the Republicans and not Obama. Just like with Clinton. And with not conviction in the Senate likely, this is an exercise in futility. Wishful thinking. A waste of time well spent.

The 2/3 vote required in the Senate to convict him fuels his lawlessness. If he knows he can't be impeached, he just does what he wants with impunity. I think our best bet until this guy leaves office, is to defund some of these agencies Obama is using to circumvent the Constitution and Congress to do what he wants without anybody controlling him. Take their money away from them. Hit them in the pocket book where it will hurt. Otherwise, I think we're going to have to wait for the 2016 elections, hope we can gain the presidency and maintain our majorities in the Congress.

Impeachment takes too long and with th Sultan will not have any effect even if it gets so far as Senate deliberation. By that time the Sultan will be way beyond the reach of Impeachment. Something has to be done NOW to avoid the complete dissolution of the Republic or at least its Venezuelification. Whatever can be done that is effective itself would be contrary to the Constitution would comport with the Declaration of Independence, that other and prior Founding Document.

I have posted many times that the only way the current _resident would get impeached is if the Dems started the proceedings.

That is unlikely. Though they are not particularly pleased with the _reisdent, they are willing to ride out the remaining 2 years.

I was recently appointed to my local county grand jury, a six month gig. We can't convict anyone. We determine if there is any “there” to possible crimes.

In addition to reviewing evidence in possible capital crimes, the grand jury can investigate local government corruption, i.e. local high crimes.

Last year, the grand jury investigated improper use of county government credit cards. No indictment.

Two years ago, the grand jury investigated rumors of the county commissioners conducting business in private, which would have been a violation of FL sunshine in government laws. No indictment.

IIRC, the district attorney said the last time our grand jury handed down an indictment was in the late 1980s for murder.

Despite the apparent waste of time in forming a grand jury every six months, the district attorney said the real value was that the public and county commissioners positively knew that a panel of citizens, outside of political influence, stood by to investigate local government shenanigans.

By this, the mere existence of the grand jury helps ensure more honest government. Our politicians know they should be prepared for public knowledge and examination of their every act.

Now, you may think an indictment of Obama, Holder, Lerner, Koskinen to be a waste of time.

I say Obama and his ministers freely commit high crimes precisely because they know the House of Reps is too frightened to do its duty and expose them. I say a permanent committee in the House should be formed to continually examine sniffs of high political crimes. Unless the executive branch knows that a permanent committee is looking for high crimes, we can expect further assaults on our liberty.
