This has been going on forever. Let’s put it this was; a young attractive woman, fresh out of college, is hired as a lobbyist. Her job is take out legislators, have dinner and schmooze with them to try to get bills for her company’s clients passed. She is informed that if Senator X, head of the relevant committee agrees to support your bill, she will get a $100,000 bonus. Now do you think if she sleeps with the old dude he’s more likely to vote for it? He doesn’t have to know she’s getting a bonus, and there’s maybe no explicit quid pro quo. He may even think she’s sleeping with him because he’s so charming, and they are consenting adults. It’s not that these lobbying firms are hiring prostitutes, it’s that a lot of women will become one if the money is big enough.

He’s going to change the way he votes just for one role in the hay? He probably could get some kind of money from one or both sides to vote. It’s not like politicians aren’t sleeping around all the time anyway. Why change a vote over one more throw?
