That is the straw man argument presented by the constitutionally clueless. According to Thomas Jefferson, there was “a long-train of abuses and usurpations.” He lists some of those abuses at the end of the Declaration. One in particular should ring familiar to freedom lovers:

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.”

You may have been deceived into believing a democracy is the same as a republic. No wonder, with all the clueless republican politicians (like G.W. Bush) constantly drumming the “we live in a democracy” lie into our heads.

Garden-variety tax criminals live in exclusive D.C. suburbs.
