I dunno... not forcing open Japan might have resulted in no expansionistic Japan, no invasion of China, no Communist takeover of China, Detroit still being economically viable.

Hell Rand would have decried Admirals Nimitz and Halsey going to Japan in the 1940s.

I doubt that many of the so called ‘front runners’ are even aware that Pres. Jefferson knew how to handle the Barbary i.e. Muslim Pirates.
