Having worked in a big city ER for 20+ years I can confirm that there are women who *do* get the *tar* beaten out of them by husbands/boyfriends.And all too often it happens repeatedly.I can even confirm that women are sometimes *murdered* by a husband/boyfriend.One of my most vivid memories of my time in the ER was a young woman who had been shot right in the forehead by her boyfriend..she was wheeled, face up,about two feet from me.

As a result when a claim of self defense is made by a woman who assaults/kills a boyfriend I won't dismiss out of hand.

I once worked with a young lady who was physically abused in a marriage from hell. She tried to get out of it repeatedly. Finally divorced the guy and he ended up blowing her brains out and killing himself sometime later.

She had a restraining order against him, but he told her he left his prescription drugs at her home and needed to meet and get them. Why she met him that day to give them over I’ll never know.

I have a sore spot with domestic violence victims because of this.
