I wish them the very best of luck, but how many times have we heard this same crap over the last 20 years.

“Fusion power has been just around the corner for 50 years.”

Yep. And I’ve got this miracle battery that’s ALMOST ready to manufacture. It’s a 6” cube that weighs 100 pounds, doesn’t require exotic materials, charges in 4 hours, lasts for 20 years without maintenance, holds enough power to run a car for a week and will cost only $1,000.00.

And did I mention it’s almost ready to manufacture? I figure about one more year and the few remaining kinks will be worked out. I’m in the process of gathering investors right now too, you know, if you want in on the deal. A much better deal than some fusion reactor that’s always just around the corner.

It will be banned in America. The Chinese will build them, though.

You joke, but a lot of people would like to try and keep us dependent on middle eastern oil.

The promising thing that I saw in this is that LM is spending their own money on it. Not their usual tactic of bleeding the govt. Very unusual for them. They must want sole and undisputed ownership.

Another thing is that they are a greed driven entity that is ruthless & strong enough to withstand bribery & threats. With trillions of dollars and national economies at risk, concerned parties will bribe or kill people (Ask yourself what would Putin do?). Just sayin...

I am not joking. If you really look at the philosophy of the lilly whites, you will find that deep down their environmentalism is a vehicle for mass murder of people they don't like to produce a garden of eden in which they are in charge. The only way the environment can be fixed in their minds, is through mass depopulation. Environmentalism is mostly just a cover story. Fusion would allow the current population to exist, and in a much cleaner environment. This is not what the lilly whites want, and so they will ban it.

However, the lilly white's policies are getting less and less traction overseas. China will work in its own interest. So will India. None of them will commit suicide just because our ruling class wants them to.

"When two scientists announced last month in Utah that they had achieved room-temperature nuclear fusion, the news shot through the halls of science like a scalded cat. "It was," one Berkeley physicist said, "like seeing your car suddenly jump on the roof." It was that unexpected and stunning.

But now that the first waves of astonishment, wonder and euphoria have passed, a few scientists, environmentalists and ecological activists have begun to have more troubling thoughts. For one thing, they say, even if desktop fusion really works--a matter still very much up in the air--it is unclear that the power produced will be as cheap or clean as many have suggested it might be.

And even if it were, given society's dismal record in managing technology, the prospect of cheap, inexhaustible power from fusion is "like giving a machine gun to an idiot child," Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich says. Laments Washington-based author-activist Jeremy Rifkin, "It's the worst thing that could happen to our planet." Inexhaustible power, he argues, only gives man an infinite ability to exhaust the planet's resources, to destroy its fragile balance and create unimaginable human and industrial waste. "

Fusion reactors aren’t terribly useful as WMD.

“too cheap to meter”

Yep very cheap for them to produce, and it will cost the consumer an arm and a leg!

The left will find a way to vilify fusion and tax it out of existence. Energy is freedom from drudgery. The left hates drudgery but wants other to suffer it.

I am suggesting that they are in quest of funding, and that the science itself may be no more correct than that of global warming.

This smacks of cronyism to me.

Funding is just a means to power! Of course so isw global warming science so I guess that if you think that funding is the means to corruption, you are right!

It matters little whether it is politics (including global warming - global politics) or save the whales, it is all the same... One of these days, the stupid will awake, but not in my lifetime. I’m hoping for death before idiots become our leaders again (as seems to have happened the last election - love all these liberal whites who voted for absolution) but have my doubts as it seems to be coming so fast. Wish that I did not have a Son that has to put up with the future!

Wait a minute... I thought you were bought out by the oil companies so they could keep it out of the market.
