The E-mail Scandal Won’t Doom Hillary

by JONAH GOLDBERG March 6, 2015

But it should make liberals feel uneasy about continuing to support her. Historically, the Clintons have proved to be politically indestructible. To paraphrase the movie Aliens, to truly destroy the Clinton-Industrial Complex, you’d have to nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure. Given that alone, I doubt that the unfolding controversy over Hillary’s e-mail schemes spells her doom. The basic details are as follows: In 2009, a week before she started her job as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton had a personal Internet server registered at her home address. She then used her own domain name, “clintonemail.com,” to conduct all of her business — for the State Department, but also presumably the Clinton Foundation and other matters, be they nefarious or high-minded. The server was registered under the name Eric Hoteman — someone who doesn’t exist.

But it’s almost surely Eric Hothem, a Washington financial adviser and former aide to Clinton who, according to the Associated Press, has been a technology adviser to the family. Tony Soprano would be envious. This system allowed Clinton to maintain control over her e-mail correspondence. No third-party copies would be stored on, say, government or Google hard drives. Matt Devost, a security expert, succinctly explained to Bloomberg News the point of having your own private e-mail server: “You erase it and everything’s gone.”

"The E-mail Scandal Won’t Doom Hillary"

It probably would have doomed Nixon, and I suspect clinton knows that.

They have such little respect for us little people, that the corruption is being done right out in the open because they know they’ll get away with it.

The E-mail Scandal Won’t Doom Hillary

Not as a stand alone incident, but coupled with things like Benghazi and the fact that she has accomplished nothing as SOS might just make a difference.

Not to mention her claim that she was fired upon in Bosnia and her claim that Chelsea was near the World Trade Center on 9/11

This women is so full of BS that if the GOP doesn't take advantage of this, they are fools.

If this had happened in a Republican administration, you could just simply forget about the balance of the President's term. Just write it off.

Every Democrat in congress, along with all the heavy hitters of the punditocracy, would be calling for top-to-bottom investigations of every cabinet-level agency.

The BATF going after AR-15 ammo? That would be a laugh.

Every manager in the BATF would be scrambling to assemble all his e-mails, his deleted e-mails, his junk e-mails, his archived e-mails, going back to day one of this administration, and probably before.

Every cabinet department would have its own special prosecutor, each with his or her own staff of hand-picked Democrats, looking in to every nook and cranny of every electronic record-keeping system in the executive branch.

Leaks would be coming daily, with salacious details of back-biting, office romances, nastygrams about Democrat Members of Congress, shady financial deals, kick-backs, insider trading, nepotism, influence peddling, etc., etc.

The torrent would grow into a cataract, and then into a deluge.

While this was going on, not a blessed thing would be done on the President's agenda. The whole thing would be effectively shut down. That includes nominees to the federal courts, cabinet level vacancies would go unfilled, staff positions would freeze in place.

Key staffers would resign to write books or huddle with their attorneys.

There would be leaks to committee staffers, leaks to the Washington Post and the New York Times. It would make Watergate look like an Easter egg hunt.

But, as I say, that would all happen if we had a Republican president with a Democrat-led congress. Because the party labels are reversed, it will probably all blow over, with nothing changed, and Obama churning forward on all fronts with his "fundamental transformation of America" agenda.

If it doesn’t doom her it will be because the Republican nominee will (in McCain and Romney-like fashion) think he is taking the “high road” by just “sticking to the issues” and refusing to pass judgment on Hillary’s character.

Otherwise, Hillary is finished. The Clintons are not indestructible.

OK the media may be on her side but Hillary ain’t Bill and she won’t be able to slick her way out of trouble. The media is in full spin control now but that’s not going to prevent the Democratic Party bigwigs from recruiting another candidate. In private, they don’t want to put up with four to eight more years of Clinton scandals and screwups. I’m tired of people thinking Hillary is unbeatable. She’s an implosion waiting to happen and she won’t get to the White House.

Historically, the Clintons have proved to be politically indestructible.

This was the author's second sentence and has nothing to do with politics or bad political policy. This is about taking glaring unauthorized security risks, operating outside of protocol with the real potential of causing great harm to the U.S. This is not defensible.

The GOP won’t take advantage of it because they would rather see her in the WH than Scott Walker or Ted Cruz. They must, however, appear to be aggressive in this matter to please their base. It’s all theatrics. If anyone takes her down, so to speak, it will be her own party, not the Republicans. HRC has far more enemies in her own party than the GOP. And they have far more to lose by her candidacy than the Republicans.

This points to another reason why I think Clinton will survive this mess. If there’s a damning e-mail out there, it’s been deleted, and the relevant hard drive would be harder to find than Jimmy Hoffa’s body. So critics are probably left with the task of proving a negative.

The author is wrong again here. How secure her personal private unauthorized email might or might not have been is not the question. The question is why would she be communicating in an unauthorized manner outside of protocol? Without records/archives, how would the American people know what is being said, or if this person is even incompetent or can not be trusted? Traitors, subversive elements and incompetence have existed at all levels down though history.

Her personal security or how she personally safeguarded her private email is not the question here.

It's why there are checks and balances, records and archives.

Without them no one can be held responsible for anything. This alone should bar her from ever conducting business on behalf of the American people.

You have nailed it! This email scandal will put new light on the Benghazi investigation. I hope it places obstruction charges on the Hildebeast.

Now that ObamaCare is “the law of the land”, Hillary should stay home writing poetry or learning how to paint or play the guitar.

Mrs. Clinton is a ranking member of the Uniparty. There is nobody to hold her accountable.
