Indians Hunting Buffalo (Charles Marion Russell)
Oh, good grief.
A Native American group is calling on “Buffalo, New York” to change its racist, insensitive name.
Pundit Press reported:
Mark Beasley, a member of the Navajo Nation, has started a petition for Buffalo, NY to change its racist and offensive name. According to Beasley, he speaks for his Native American colleagues.
Beasley writes in his petition that Buffalo is the name of the animal that was driven almost to extinction by the non-Native forces in order to annihilate and drive out my ancestors from the American landscape.
Further, Within only a few years from the beginning of the campaign, all Native nations were driven off their lands and into reservations, where we have prior and since been unduly subjugated and and [sic] exposed to genocidal horrors unimaginable to the rest of the world and throughout history.
For these reasons, Beasley writes, Buffalo should change their offensive and racist names containing the word Buffalo.

We’ve become a nation of whiny pantywaists.
> There are no Native Americans. Just an argument over when everybody got here and what rights they should have.
My family got her in 1607. Does that make me a native?
IDIOTS????....
Reminds one of a few years back when PETA went berserk demanding Fishkill be stricken from the records as it ‘reminded’ people of killing fish.
Even after it was pointed out that ‘in the Old Dutch’ KILL meant stream/creek etc, and it was actually a good thing, they still persisted....
15 moments of fame etc etc
There’s an entry in the back pages of our family bible that reads “James, Sarah and 2 infant children murdered by Cree’ Indians, July 15, 1740.”
I’m pretty sure our family has ever gotten an apology from an indian.
They could call it, “Navajo.”
I always thought it was named in honor of the slant 6....
Dodge City is named for Fort Dodge, which apparently was named for General Grenville Dodge. An alternative theory is that Fort Dodge was named for Col. Henry Dodge.
Indians kidnapped and tortured people. Do we smear all Indians or guilt-trip them whenever a kidnapping occurs or someone is tortured?
Did the people of Buffalo NY name their city in mockery of the Indians? Isn't this a little egotistical to presume that white Americans spend all their time thinking up ways to belittle Indians?
Our daughter married an Indian. We've had a chance to see what it's like on the "rez." Drunkenness, drugs, dependency, immorality of all kinds. Thank God they got out of there. They and the grandchildren are doing fine. Their oldest, a girl, is now starting college.
IMHO, the government is still killing the Indians. The best thing they can do for themselves is get the hell off of the reservation where the government keeps them warehoused.
Thanks for filling in the French name. Not really named after the beast!
